Disappointing Experience at Shanghai Restaurant, Barasat Duck Bungalow Branch
I recently dined at Shanghai Restaurant's Barasat Duck Bungalow branch, and unfortunately, it was an extremely disappointing experience. Given the high traffic on January 1st, the restaurant was quite crowded, and the management struggled to cope with the rush. Although they had space to accommodate customers, they failed to do so efficiently, likely due to insufficient staff.
I had to repeatedly argue with the restaurant manager to secure a table that was already vacant, despite the fact that my 3-year-old son was very hungry. Despite informing the staff about this, my concerns were disregarded. The lack of a basic system to manage customer flow was evident.
We ordered the Shanghai Special Chicken Fried Rice and Kung Pao Chicken, but both dishes were disappointing. The fried rice resembled a vegetable dish more than a chicken fried rice, with barely any chicken or egg present. The Kung Pao Chicken was bland and lacked the expected spice, with excessive salt and sourness overshadowing the flavors. This was far from the quality we have experienced at other Chinese restaurants like Chowman, Beijing Bites, and Midland China.
Given the high price point (Rs. 1000 for two people), the portion sizes were insufficient, further contributing to the unsatisfactory experience. While the ambiance and service were acceptable, they couldn’t compensate for the poor food quality.
Overall, I would advise potential customers to reconsider visiting this restaurant unless they make significant improvements to both their food quality and pricing. It’s certainly not worth spending...
Read moreHi, this is Ranabir and I visited Shanghai, 'the great flavors of china town or whatever it is. But trust me people, it's not even close to a single dust particle of Chinatown. Ambiance and atmosphere is worst, AC doesn't work at all during the day time or may be the staffs were upto saving electricity! Water drops continuously from the AC on an electical plug point fitted at the bottom, and nobody actually cares. Coming to the main part which is food, the staff hands over to the customer a big menu card of which maximum items are unavailable!! No lamb!!, no mutton!!, no pork!! The simple reply that we get after asking why they don't have these dishes is "we don't have stock, sir!", "Only chicken and prawn sir!" Okay coming to the food the we ultimately got into table, the greatest drums of heaven which severely became bitter due to overlooking! And when we call the person who was serving us, he told, "sir, soya sauce sir! Little bitter sir!" I mean like what?! Then ordered for fresh lime soda to take a little refreshment from the bad food, and he broght us hot lime soda, instead of fresh lime soda. I asked sir, isn't it supposed to be a little colder, he replied, "cold sir, soda from fridge sir!" It was again ridiculous! Then after not finding our desired items which were obviously of lamb and mutton, we ordered a simple mixed hakka noodles. And finally got it on table, the taste was very average and quantity was too less for an item costing Rs. 265 INR. Overall WE ARE LOCAL RESIDENTS OF BARASAT AND WE ARE NOT VISITING THERE ANY MORE. IT'S THE WORST PLACE WE HAVE...
