The Dakhinewar Kali Temple, located on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River in Kolkata, is a majestic shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali. This iconic temple, built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, a devotee and philanthropist, is a masterpiece of Bengal architecture and a spiritual haven for devotees.

The temple complex is expansive, featuring a stunning central shrine dedicated to Kali, surrounded by 12 smaller temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The towering spire of the main temple, adorned with intricate carvings and designs, stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. The serene ambiance of the temple is enhanced by the tranquil views of the Hooghly River, making it a perfect spot for meditation and reflection.

The daily rituals, especially the evening aarti, are deeply moving and attract a large number of devotees and tourists. The temple also has historical significance, as it is closely associated with the 19th-century mystic, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, who served as the head priest.

Visiting the Dakhinewar Kali Temple is not just a religious experience but a journey into the cultural and spiritual heart of Bengal. The temple's atmosphere, rich history, and stunning architecture make it a must-visit for anyone in Kolkata. However, the temple can get crowded, especially during festivals, so planning your visit during off-peak hours is advisable to fully appreciate its beauty...

My family and I visited Dakshineswar Temple in Kolkata, India, during our trip from the UK. After our temple visit, we decided to have some food since it was already mid-afternoon. My brother suggested that we go to the Food Plaza, which was located next to the temple. The place looked well-organised. However, I had my DJI 5 in my hand and was recording as we entered. I placed the DJI on the table and sat on a chair, but as soon as I sat down, all the staff attacked me as if I were a criminal. They started shouting at me to turn off the camera immediately. I couldn't believe the way they surrounded our table. Five of them at once, so rude and without any manners. I would have understood if they had a sign-up somewhere, but even that wasn't the case. There was no politeness or courtesy at all. Eventually, everything...

Dhakniswar Food Plazza offers a mixed dining experience. The hung kachori and dal are definite highlights and worth trying for those who enjoy traditional flavors. Unfortunately, the chole bhature falls short of expectations and is best avoided, as it does not meet quality standards. Other menu items are average and deliver a decent but unremarkable taste. Overall, this place may satisfy if you stick to the recommended dishes, but be cautious with some options that could disappoint. The food plaza is a decent stop for casual meals but leaves room for improvement in...

Food is okay in terms of taste. The "hing er kochuri " is what I usually prefer to eat here. Was pleasantly surprised to see lot of other food options in the menu. Along with hing er kochuri , we tried sweet lassi , tea , and roshogolla. The lassi was very well made. Restaurants are clean , service is prompt. There are a series of restaurants in the food Plaza with similar menu. The " hing er kochuri " is the main attraction here. " Hing er kochuri " - asafoetida flavored deep fried wheat bread accompanied by a generous amount of " cholar daal " or split Bengal gram curry.

Something's better than nothing. Although food not upto the mark but we are saved from those unhygienic roadside eateries. Atleast you can eat in air-conditioned clean environment. There are various eateries by many names here. I went in number 8. Dal poori @ 50/- (4 pcs) Tea, Rosogolla, water all 20/- each. Well maintained, good decoration. One can take the small lane from parking via Lake or can enter from mein gate just opposite mandir main entrance. The quality and quantity of food is same as roadside eatery but the ambience is awesome compared to past.
