I really felt a good vibe entering the restaurant, the entrance itself was very welcoming. But wouldn't say was totally satisfied at the end.The items we ordered: Lung Fung chicken soup:I had already tried this soup elsewhere, and I can say that the one served here wasn't the actual lung fung soup. The soup here was little flavourless, basically was just lots and lots of carrots and beans(that too in a but bigger size)with a bit of corn and chicken in sweet corn soup base.Wasnt satisfied with it at all. Fish finger:The taste was good and the mayo provided was exceptional. The fish was soft inside and crispy on the outside. Volcano chicken:It was really really good.RECOMMENDED MUST TRY DISH.It basically is Chinese dragon chicken based dish with foamed egg whites on the side surrounding the chicken. The egg was very frothy and melt in the mouth consistency. Mixed schezwan noodles:It was really good too.The noodles used were thinner, rather than the thicker noodles normally used in restaurants. It had lot of flavours and was great. Pros: *Nice and quite ambience *Good food *most items were in the affordable range. Cons: *Delayed service *No large varieties in menu *LUNG fung soup served didn't meet expectation at all

Went for a buffet breakfast, I really don’t know how this hotel survived, may be because it is near to airport. The taste was sub par, plates were not taken away, every table had used plates ( almost 10 tables) many of the items were finished, but no action from the restaurant servers. Few fly’s trying to steal a big peace of bread. The chairs in the restaurant are peeled off, not sure they purposefully did that to avoid customer coming inside. No active management in this restaurant what so ever. Tea pot was empty, coffee was cold.. no cups .. it is a disaster and not sure what the employees are doing.. fully messed up. I would not even think of going back again…

My experience at Virudhunagar Chettinad Restaurant was disappointing on multiple fronts. The staff, including the waiter and the owner, displayed a lack of courtesy and responsiveness. The elderly owner's bold and arrogant voice added to the unpleasant atmosphere. The service was exceptionally slow, with the workers seeming disinterested in attending to our table. The food quality was subpar, poorly cooked, and lacking the expected taste. Overall, the combination of unprofessional service and unsatisfactory food makes it difficult to recommend this restaurant.

A Culinary Gem Near Chennai Airport – Virudhunagar Chettinad Restaurant Review

If you're a fan of authentic South Indian flavors and crave a well-spiced, hearty meal, Virudhunagar Chettinad Restaurant near Chennai Airport is worth your attention. From aromatic biryanis to robustly flavored side dishes, this spot offers a true Chettinad experience with a balance of spice, freshness, and hospitality.

Food & Taste – A Symphony of Flavors Every dish exudes rich South Indian culinary tradition. Here’s what stood out:

Prawn Biryani – The undeniable star of the meal! Juicy, plump prawns blended seamlessly with perfectly cooked, fragrant biryani rice. A true showstopper.

Mutton Biryani – Succulent mutton infused with deep, earthy spices. The texture and aroma made it unforgettable.

Vanjaram Fry – A crispy, golden-brown delight bursting with coastal flavors.

Dragon Chicken – A sweet and spicy Indo-Chinese fusion dish, sure to be a crowd favorite.

Naatukozhi Biryani – Country chicken slow-cooked to tender perfection, adding a bold richness to the biryani experience.

Normal Parota & Mutton Chukka – Classic South Indian comfort food done right.

Some items, like the egg vechu parota, were underwhelming due to a tougher texture, and the salna could have been more flavorful.

Ambience & Service – Warm & Welcoming The restaurant has a comfortable, casual vibe, making it ideal for a quick meal or a leisurely dining experience.

Great service – Special thanks to Mr. Rahim, who made us feel like family with his warm and attentive hospitality.

Location convenience – Situated close to Chennai Airport and the BMW showroom, perfect for a meal before or after a flight.

Valet parking available, a thoughtful addition given the busy area.

Things to Note Washroom cleanliness could be improved.

AC wasn’t working properly, which made the inside a bit warm.

Crowded during weekends, so plan ahead to avoid long waiting times.

Some items unavailable on Sundays, so check the menu before visiting.

Final Verdict While a few minor hiccups exist, Virudhunagar Chettinad Restaurant is a solid pick for lovers of South Indian non-vegetarian cuisine.

✅ Must-try – Prawn Biryani, Mutton Biryani, Vanjaram Fry ✅ Best for – Non-veg food enthusiasts looking for rich flavors ✅ Service – Quick and friendly ✅ Pricing – Slightly on the higher side, but justified by the taste

For anyone near Chennai Airport, this spot is a delicious and authentic Chettinad experience that will leave...

A Symphony of South Indian Flavors at Virudhunagar Chettinad

I would highly recommend you to taste Prawn briyani

My recent visit to Virudhunagar Chettinad restaurant was nothing short of a culinary adventure, a vibrant exploration of South Indian spices and aromas. I embarked on a tasting journey that included their much-talked-about biryanis and some tantalizing side dishes, and I must say, the experience left a lasting impression. The mutton biryani was a hearty and flavorful start. The tender pieces of mutton were beautifully infused with the rich spices characteristic of Chettinad cuisine, and the fragrant rice was cooked to perfection. The chicken biryani followed suit, offering a lighter yet equally satisfying experience, with succulent chicken pieces nestled within the aromatic rice. The veg noodles provided a welcome contrast, a well-prepared dish with a medley of vegetables, though perhaps not the star of this particular Chettinad show.

Moving on to the sides, the vanjaram fry was a delight. The fish was incredibly fresh, coated in a fiery yet balanced marinade, and fried to a crispy golden brown. Each bite was a burst of coastal flavor. The dragon chicken offered a familiar Indo-Chinese twist, with its sweet and spicy glaze coating tender pieces of chicken – a crowd-pleaser for sure. The naatukozhi biryani was another highlight, showcasing the robust flavors of country chicken, slow-cooked to tender perfection and lending a unique depth to the biryani.

However, the true star of the evening, the dish that truly set my senses alight, was the prawn biryani. From the very first mouthful, my brain cells were indeed activated! The plump, juicy prawns were cooked with such finesse, their natural sweetness complementing the fragrant and spicy biryani rice in a way that was simply divine. It was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that left me utterly satisfied.

Overall, Virudhunagar Chettinad offers a genuine taste of the region's culinary heritage. While all the dishes I sampled had their merits, the prawn biryani stands out as an absolute must-try. The restaurant clearly takes pride in its flavorful preparations and generous portions. If you're looking for an authentic Chettinad experience that will tantalize your taste buds and perhaps even spark a few brain cells, this is definitely a...

I have visited here 2 times.. 1st time, it was back in around 2022. The serving and food was decent.. Taste was good too.. So gave me an impression that the hotel is good. the restaurant is set under a staying hotel I guess. So visited again in 2025. This time they allotted a round table in some party room which is associated with the hotel there.. Entered the hotel by around 1:50 pm.. The order was not taken for 15 mins. Then they took the order.. We ordered - 1 Chicken Biriyani, 1 NV meals, 2 rotis, 1 egg gravy along with mutton chukka, mutton liver and Chicken Tandoori.. Biriyani and Chukka was served in less than 5 min.. Meals though had to serve immediately from buffet, was not served for almost another 10 min.. Then when I raised my voice and they are asking "Have you ordered meals sir?".. Wow.. Then they served meals.. Then after another 10 minutes, came then Roti and gravy.. Until this Tandoori was not served.. I and my mom finished our food and my brother about to complete and then that too after shouting came the Tandoori..!! Tandoori is called as "Starter", which was served in the last!!! Ha ha super.. Now comes the taste and hygiene - Did not taste roti and gravy.. Biriyani was good.. Mutton chukka was 70% cooked and mutton liver was good too.. NV Gravy - All tasted like Rasam.. Mutton, chicken, Fish, all tasted like rasam.. And they dont put even one piece in any of them.. Looks like they are saving from themselves to eat in night!! Hygiene - Worst.. I lost my mood eating there after I saw a live little cockroach on the serving utensil of rice sides (Poriyal).. Also, for meals, they just kept the leaf and for 20 minutes, nothing was given like Poriyal or aplam.. And note guys, here meals will not have Aplam or pickle..

Finally called the manager.. Not sure he is the manager or owner of the restaurant.. I showed my frustration to him and in return he started raising his voice!! Then says, this is my voice, sorry..

Better is to avoid this Restaurant at all cost.. Will never go here again.. Especially for their worst service and that COCKROACH.. Yuck.. Request FSSAI to take...
