Don’t get your hopes up about the service here if you aren’t Caucasian.
Decided to dine here for our first dinner in Bali and was initially floored by the reception staff & ambience. The magic of the venue died pretty quickly though and the experience dining here soured by the minute. It took too much effort to get the attention of wait-staff to take our order, because every one of them seemed to be busy with other tables. We had one of the black uniformed men take our orders and recommend a bottle of wine to go along. Then, the waiting game began.
We had to ask after our still water 4 separate times to different staff. Then, a table of Caucasians who arrived & ordered after us, immediately got their bottle of wine opened with a decanter. Waters finally arrived after the main dishes were served. Later, I asked one of the white uniformed staff about the wine, he said they didn’t get the order and asked me which we wanted. Since the black uniformed staff chose for us, we asked him to kindly go check what was it, only for the white uniformed staff to come back and tell us the original guy had forgotten— He didn’t even come personally to apologise for missing it out (and forgot what it was as he was serving the table next to us, decanter and all).
Kudos to the white uninformed staff who was very kind and personally attended to us for the rest of the time we were there. We couldn’t help but wonder why every other staff seemed to be at everyone else’s beck and call.
The food was good though, save for the saffron fettuccine. Meal would have been only slightly disappointing if not for the appalling service. Safe to say it wasn’t a good experience for us and won’t be recommending...
Read moreWe recently had dinner at Da Maria Seminyak and had a really good time! The place has a stylish and lively atmosphere — colorful, vibrant, and definitely a fun spot to hang out with friends or family. It’s well-designed, casual but still has a cool edge to it.
The food was great. We ordered a variety of Italian dishes and were impressed by how fresh and flavorful everything was. Their pizzas were fantastic — the crust was thin and crispy, and the toppings were generous and high-quality. We also tried their pasta, which was cooked just right with delicious sauces that didn’t feel too heavy. Everything tasted authentic and was well-prepared.
The service was friendly and fast. Staff were attentive without being pushy, and they made us feel very welcome. Even though Da Maria is quite popular and busy, the vibe remained relaxed and enjoyable throughout the evening.
We didn’t try any desserts, but honestly, we were already full and satisfied with the main dishes. The portions were fair, and for the quality you get, the price was very reasonable — especially for Seminyak standards.
The location is super convenient too, close to shopping areas and easy to reach if you’re staying around Seminyak. Parking was a bit limited, but it’s very walkable if you’re already in the area.
Overall, Da Maria is a great choice if you’re looking for a lively, delicious Italian meal in Bali with a fun atmosphere and good service. Highly recommend and would...
Read moreThis meal was overwhelmingly ... ok.
First the good: the service was good, staff were attentive and friendly, and you could tell they were trying very hard to please. The restaurant was clean. A nice environment for a meal.
The food, however, was not stellar. Had five dishes -- two appetizers and two pastas, plus a salad-- every dish had some highlights, but at least one major flaw.
For example, the tomatoes in the burratta were flavorful and ripe, but the cheese, which should be the star, was ordinary. The pasta was perfectly al dente and good portion-size, but the meat in the sauce was chalky. The capacccio beef was very nice, but sprinkled with (may god have mercy) peanuts and wasn't served with lemon. (The menu says almonds. They were not almonds, and even that would be a sin against food.) The beetroot salad was inedible. The standout dish was the ravioli, which was simple and very well- executed.
Overall, it was an extremely underwhelming meal, and not a single dish made me go "wow, that was great." And if this was at Asia prices, fine. But it's not. At full western prices, ($62 usd for two people, no alcoholic drinks), it should be full western quality. It's not. At home, this place wouldn't last a month.
Overall, I ate all my food, didn't complain, and paid the bill. But I would never return or recommend...
