The Grumpy Butcher — Restaurant in Bali

Nothing to be Grumpy about Mr Butcher I just had the most amazing birthday. I had friends fly in from overseas and lots of surprises. However my birthday wouldn’t have been quite so amazing had I not decided to choose The Grumpy Butcher as the venue. My guests were blown away by the food and drink’s particularly the cocktails and the dedication of the management and staff to our dining experience all served up with genuine top notch service. Personally I would like to thank Wayan the Manager for his flexibility in meeting my guests requests and needs - you really went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful. The food? It’s always a carnivorous treat for me and again I couldn’t resist and I shared a meat platter with my partners. Others on the table tried Octopus, Steak and of course the amazing sides (the Mac & Cheese is the super star side dish). Negronis flowed and the Barman Budi created cocktail theatre with his Negroni ritual which had all the guests enthralled. The wine was excellent and we drank and ate unfil the restaurant was empty. We were never made to feel uncomfortable as the night got later - the service was seamless from Sunset until midnight - the staffs energy and attitude proves they are all rockstars. My guests and I come from high end hospitality backgrounds and we are usually super critics when visiting other establishments - however nobody had anything but positive comments to pass on - well done Grumpy Butcher - you made my birthday extra...

My partner and I went to have a nice dinner here after seeing a very convincing video on TikTok and I can not explain enough how far this restaurant and it’s staff exceeded our expectations, as soon as we had arrived we were both greeted with the best welcome and throughout the whole night, our waiter was amazing, beyond accommodating, extremely kind and he did everything possible for us to have the best dinner. It truly was outstanding, from the lovely staff to the AMAZING FOOD!!! We had ordered a ribeye, prawns, ox tongue and burrata. Our waiter double checked if that was all we wanted we said, “yes, we don’t eat much”… PFT WE PROCEEDED TO DEMOLISH NEARLY EVERYTHING and the 3 pieces of steak and 4 slices of bread that were left over we got for take away just to eat it again later. Not to mention, I had ordered 3 watermelon juices for myself because oh my lord I HAVE NEVER HAD WATERMELON JUICE THAT WAS SO REFRESHING!!!!!!!! The food and watermelon juices were so mind blowing that I cried of joy. On top of everything, on our way out not one person missed saying bye and wishing us a good night - it truly is an astonishing place, awesome food, insane watermelon juice, great service and definitely is a must try in Bali. This will always be my number one recommendation to anyone who comes to Bali. This restaurant is definitely a reason revisit Bali anyone who says any different just needs to re evaluate their opinions.

Dined here recently. Was gobsmacked by a place that'd be considered 'high end' anywhere on earth (as far as steaks go)

Ordered the 400gr wagyu ribeye, dish arrived, along with some others such as, the smoked duck, grilled eggplant, mashed potatoes, Rather scattered at that.

Ill admit that other than the steak and mashed potatoes and the scattered delivery, everything was great.

What irked me, was asking the waitperson (who was absolutely lovely) if its ok to order this steak rare/mid.. of course they said, so when it arrived well done and id asked to speak with my waitperson and mention very discreetly that there might be a minor issue with my steak..id explained that I believe my steak was well done.. the answer "ill get them to cook it more for you sir" not even kidding.. me being me. I couldn't help myself "yes, please cook it more"

Anyways, between 2 people, I dropped about $1000.

Im sure the owners dont expect this from the chefs or their senior wait staff. One of the most expensive steaks on offer, any where really. Can't really get this wrong.

Also, to the owners, I did request I could mention this privately and gave my contact number to the staff. Ive waited longer than youd think. Also, for what its worth, I did ask that your waitperson view the steak, taste it, check the colour through the middle of the steak.. their own words "its chewy and very tough"
