Oka’s Bakery and Cafe has become my go-to spot because it’s conveniently close to my place - just a minute’s walk away. The convenience of the location is definitely a plus, but what keeps me coming back is the incredibly friendly staff. While I may not always remember all their names, a few stand out: Indah, Putu, Eva, Nindia, Ibu Kadek, Ibu Dewi, Agus, and Ferry. They always greet me warmly, and they never fail to ask how my day is going and genuinely listen to my stories.
Indah and I share a love for the color blue, she even gave me a butterfly hairpin so we could match. It’s a small gesture, but it highlights the personal touch and thoughtfulness that makes this cafe so special. Putu, on the other hand, has a unique tone, especially when she talks using Balinese language. Eva and Nindia, the dynamic duo, are K-Pop enthusiasts, so whenever I greet them with ‘annyeong haseyo’, it brings a sparkle to their eyes and a lively conversation about the latest in K-Pop. Next, Ibu Kadek and Ibu Dewi who exude calm and wisdom, providing a serene and comforting presence that balances the vibrant atmosphere of the cafe (they often share insightful advice and life stories). Last, Agus and Ferry, with their high sense of humor, they never fail to entertain with their jokes! They bring a lighthearted energy that lifts everyone’s spirits, turning any bad day into a good one. Their humor is infectious, and it’s impossible not to leave the cafe without a smile. On top of that, the Oka family is incredibly warm. Whenever they hold traditional ceremonies (for example: Otonan), they invite me, making me feel really appreciated.
When it comes to the food, Oka’s Bakery and Cafe has some fantastic options. If you’re in the mood for Western cuisine, I highly recommend the Oka’s Big Burger (I really love the sauce they use). If you prefer Indonesian cuisine, the Crispy Duck is a must-try! However, if you’re feeling under the weather, you can’t go wrong with their Oxtail Soup.
Their drink menu also has some great choices. My favourite is the Mix Berries Juice. It’s perfectly balanced, not too sweet and not too sour, making it incredibly refreshing.
Moreover, the cafe offers strong and reliable Wi-Fi, which makes it a great spot for working remotely or just browsing the internet while enjoying your meal.
Personally, I would say Oka’s Bakery and Cafe is not just a place to eat, but a place where you feel welcomed and valued. Thank...
Read moreOka’s Bakery in Canggu Batu Bolong is an absolute gem for anyone looking for delicious gluten-free options and specialty coffee. Located in the heart of Canggu, this cozy bakery offers a wide variety of gluten-free bread, pastries, and cakes that are not only healthy but also incredibly tasty. As someone who is mindful of gluten, I was thrilled to find a place that doesn’t compromise on flavor or texture.
The bread selection is fantastic – from crusty baguettes to soft sandwich loaves, all gluten-free and freshly baked. Their cakes are equally impressive, with options like rich chocolate cake, moist carrot cake, and creamy cheesecake. Each bite feels indulgent yet guilt-free.
What really stood out to me was their coffee. The baristas clearly know their craft, and every cup is brewed to perfection. Whether you prefer a strong espresso or a creamy latte, the coffee here is some of the best I’ve had in Canggu.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax, work, or catch up with friends. The staff are friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
If you’re in Canggu and looking for a place that caters to gluten-free diets without sacrificing taste, Oka’s Bakery is a must-visit. Highly recommended for foodies, coffee lovers, and health-conscious...
Read moreAVOID IF VEGAN AND GLUTEN FREE I went to this place for lunch because it's advertised on Google maps as a gluten-free bakery. On the café menu, gluten-free is just a small part of what they offer. The staff have a very vague understanding of what the gluten-free options are supposed to be, and disagree with each other. I'm vegan (severe milk as well as gluten allergy) so it took a long time to factor that in as well and try and find something I could eat. I kept being offered 'vegan' options with bacon and/or eggs. Eventually my gluten-free and 'vegan' scrambled tofu arrived, but it came with a packet of clearly marked real butter, which made me lose confidence. I ordered a smoothie too with coconut milk/yoghurt which tasted suspect. A few hours later I am now in bed feeling very rough. My joints are swollen and painful, my skin is blotchy, my body feels like lead and my brain feel like it's on fire. This only happens if I have gluten and/or dairy so I'm 99% sure I've been poisoned here. It's going to take a while to recover. This is particular disappointing as this place advertises itself as aware of special dietary requirements. Avoid if you have...
