Nestled in the heart of Canggu, Bali, Roots stands out as one of the top-tier destinations for plant-based cuisine in my opinion. This vegan-friendly restaurant offers a delightful blend of savoury, healthy food in a charming ambience, particularly enchanting during the evening hours.
The menu boasts an impressive array of options, and we tried a few of their signature items.
The “Island State of Mind” bowl is a vibrant medley of flavours and textures. The pumpkin seed tempeh provides a nutty, protein-rich base, complemented by an assortment of charred and fresh vegetables. The burnt coconut adds a unique smoky note, while the coconut turmeric dressing ties everything together with its creamy, slightly spicy profile.
The “Spice Trade” bowl is equally impressive, living up to its name with a harmonious blend of spices. The roasted pumpkin and grilled vegetables offer a satisfying, caramelised sweetness, beautifully balanced by the smoky, spicy nuts. The homemade rawmesan cheese adds a savoury umami element, while the chipotle dressing introduces a subtle heat that enhances, rather than overwhelms, the other flavours.
For the sides, we tried the Grilled Mushroom Skewers—a standout, with their meaty texture and rich, earthy flavour intensified by the grilling process. The grilled cauliflower, too, is a delicious addition, with an interesting blend of sauce that makes it taste delectable.
To round off the meal, the choice of refreshing beverages—apple & snake fruit and mixed berry shrub—provides a perfect palate cleanser and a refreshing contrast to the savoury dishes.
Photos may not do justice to the dishes, but overall, the quality of ingredients shines through in every dish, a testament to Roots’ commitment to wholesome, plant-based cooking. Coupled with polite staff and a pleasant atmosphere, we had a great time enjoying wholesome food in a relaxing environment.
Definitely recommended for those looking to try plant-based...
Read moreDay 1 of the renewed divorced party, and what a welcome we had by the amazing staff of the place, The Divorces Avenger arrived to Bali today, the whole city stopped completely to have him, which took him 3 hours just to get to the villa. Your man decided his roots and when to Roots
As you can see he opted by a bowl, you can see by the order his name written down, and he's on the phone answering in the Divorce Club Community in Bali. Once the staff realized the name, and the person, just called us the Avengers, the Divorced Avenger, I believe he thought it was a real superhero, which it is, they exist not only in movies.
God said the ventilation system was average, though hard to evaluate since we don't have a benchmark yet, music was okay, I could see his leg shaking, and his fingers 🤌🤌 doing that, not the Italian way. Once the food arrived, people noticed some tension, since there was lack of protein, in his levels, today he just reached 27%, and he says "so people here don't eat protein, the beasts that come, will lose weight"
Disappointed with that, and when the bill was coming, we see the enthusiasm in the waiter's face screaming, "here the bill FOR THE AVENGERS" I think we increased that guy's level os testosterone to another level.
Thank you so much, and The Avenger will be back to terminate another meal... Looking for protein, now it's bed time, since his body...
Read moreRoots is my absolute favorite restaurant in Bali! As a vegan who tries to eat as healthy as possible, I really appreciate how many healthy, plant-based dishes they offer — and they’re all incredibly delicious. I especially love the “build your own bowl,” in which I always go for tofu, tempeh, and plenty of different vegetables. It’s the perfect way to customize a nutritious meal and get enough protein, which is super important for anyone into sports or fitness.
The restaurant is very quiet, which makes it a great place to relax or get some work done. I also love the interior design — it’s beautifully done and adds to the calm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are always super friendly, greeting you with a smile and seeming genuinely happy when you come back.
One thing I really appreciated is how seriously they take your allergies. They ask multiple times if necessary, repeat your order carefully, and ensure everything is safe for you. I felt truly cared for and well taken care of.
