We spent 1 week in Wasabi, we had the room on the top floor called Petunia.
The room itself is very spacious accompanied by a huge terrace, outside bath tub and a big bathroom. The bed is very comfy and the room has a pretty view over the nearby rice fields and the city. You have a bit of view to the sea but I’d wouldn’t call it a sea view. The best feature of the room is the outside bathtub however it takes a long time to fill it up - this is okay if you think in advance and start filling it up way before using it. As our room is on the top floor we had plenty of sunlight but I understand the complaints of the other rooms as they indeed looked pretty dark. However they have a lot of light sources installed both in the room and the bathroom. I think the issue is that the walls are painted dark colours (red, greyish/greenish) which makes the room look smaller and darker. If I was the owner I’d repaint the rooms using light colours, preferably white to have the illusion on having more space/light. Also there are issues with water leakage - there is a lot of water mark on the ceiling and strange stains on the walls. The water from the shower leaks onto the stairs leading up to the room. Also, one night we had a bigger storm and the water flowed into the room even with the doors closed. They’re not properly sealed so they let the water in. This wasn’t much of an issue for us but something I’d recommend improving. The bathroom is big with plenty of space, however the window is small and it has an open design so you can’t close it. This means that you need to keep the bathroom door closed when using the AC otherwise the cold goes out through the window. This means that the room is cold but then you go to the toilet and it’s warm and super humid. I’d install a window that is bigger and can be closed to solve this issue. The room has plenty of extra such as the mini fridge, tea/coffee/sugar, fresh water and anti-mosquito which is very much welcome. They also refill your water bottles downstairs which is something I really appreciated as it saves a lot of plastic. The cleaning service was top notch, the guys did a good job. I wish they’d wash the outside pillows sometimes and they look very dirty. I understand they don’t wash them after every guest but every 2 weeks I think it would be important to clean them.
Downstairs you have the swimming pool with several sun beds. They also have cold water with fresh lemon and cucumber which is a very nice touch. They also give you extra towels for the pool.
The breakfast is okay, you have several options to choose from, however it was very disappointing to learn upon arrival that the standard breakfast does not include the coffee neither the fruit platter. I find this strange as all the other accommodation we had before they all had the coffee+fruit platter+the dish you chose. They charge you and extra 30K if you wish to get them. Also, some of the breakfast portions such as the egg benedict is pretty small. I usually went with the healthy option which is a big bowl of fruits with some muesli, yoghurt and honey. We also tried the food from the restaurant one evening but I didn’t like it - the katsu bowl had not much to do with Japanese food and the sauce tasted like something out of an Uncle Ben’s jar😅 You get a discount if you’re a guest but even with that it was pretty expensive. So I don’t recommend the restaurant itself.
As for the service in general, the staff was nice, they did their job however compared to other places it felt a bit less personal. We came from Ubud where we also spent a week and we felt like it was home and the people genuinely cared about us. We didn’t have the same experience here but this might just be down to personal experience. Also, some of the staff seemed to work a lot - one guy was there all morning and evening two days in a row which questioned the welfare/conditions of the staff. I just hope they’re well paid and get plenty of resting time between shifts.
Overall, our stay was okay as we had the top room but would I return?...
Read moreWe stayed in the suite room on the top floor. This room has a big terrace and a private bathtub. The views are really good, but you can't really see the ocean (as it is advertised in the name of the room). Anyway, I recommend this room because of the views and the terrace. We didn't check the rest of the rooms (ground and first floor), but they look dark and don't have a good view from the window.
The room is big and has a king bed and a single bed. Both of them are comfortable. The room comes with a fridge, space to store your clothes, a good internet connection, anti-mosquitoes and they provide you with free water, coffee and tea. You can ask for more water free of charge.
The bathroom is also big, and you have plenty of space to leave your products. It is pretty dark, even with the light on and humid. You have some humidities in the wall that require attention.
The cleaning of the room happens very late. There were times when the cleaning happened around 15:30! I am used to having the room clean during the morning, not after lunch, while I'm back in the room. The cleaning is very well done. I also noticed that they don't restock the coffee or tea unless you point it to the person in charge.
We booked the room with breakfast included. You can have breakfast from 7:30 till 11:30. There are five options (healthy fruit bowl, benedict eggs, french toast, fried rice/noodles or continental breakfast).
The continental breakfast consists of a croissant, a chocolate-filled pastry, and a piece of bread with butter and jam.
The benedict eggs aren't really benedict eggs. It comes with spinach and bacon instead of smoked salmon. Nevertheless, they are tasty, and I mainly chose this option.
We didn't know when we made the reservation that you need to pay extra (30K) if you want to have coffee plus a small fruit bowl. It's pretty disappointing because other hotels offer you coffee along with the food.
The swimming pool has a normal size, and they provide you with water with lemon or cucumber while you are sunbathing. This is a very good detail from your side!
As improvements, I would say that you need to replace the towels and curtains because they look old, have holes and aren't white anymore. You don't expect these things when visiting a hotel like this one. We ate just once in the restaurant because we didn't find the food tasty. We ate the bento box and the katsu bowl. The restaurant offers plenty of food options, but I suggest you offer fewer options and master...
Read moreWasabi Hotel is a super little gem in Pererenan, probably about a 2 minute motorcycle ride down the main drag to the beach. Our room was on the first level with a lovely balcony and day bed which was a treat to be able to sit outside in comfort. The room itself was tastefully decorated in a minimalistic and functional style. The room is equipped with TV, Fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, adequate hanging space for clothes and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. The pool area provided enough day bed lounges for guests which for a smaller hotel is quite rare. The restaurant attached to the hotel is where the real prize is to be found. The food is Japanese themed and of exceptional quality, value, presentation and variety, it was absolutely amazing and if nothing else can recommend the hotels food as one of your stops in the area!! The staff were all completely delightful, professional and courteous at all times and tended to any request with complete efficiency and diligence. Can highly recommend Wasabi Hotel if you are travelling to the area and looking for a mid range, comfortable and affordable hotel. The area is surrounded with some wonderful restaurants so Wasabi would be a perfect base to explore the culinary delights the area has to offer. Thankyou for having us, we...
