Came to Tagine Bali for a late lunch. Location is convenient in north Kuta, side of the main road, very accessible by Grab/Gojek. The interior is unique to say the least, shaped like a large Arabian tent. Menu is of Maghrebi cuisine, dishes that are synonymous with North Africa.
Starters were Merguez, grilled lamb sausages. They were marinated with spices and not overpowering in flavor. Lamb was tender.
Also had Beef Brique, or brik/burek, a fried triangle pastry stuffed with marinated beef and cheese, which were crispy and very flavorful.
For mains (star of the show), had the Tagine Green Olives, Vegetables Whole Lamb Shank. Ordered the 400/450gram version which is enough for two pax. Served in a tagine earthenware (with no cover). We accompanied it with two servings of Arabic bread. The lamb shank is oh so tender, the slightest touch of the finger and the meat parts. The gravy is well marinated and the vegetables (olives, carrots, potatoes) were cooked tender. Dish goes very well with the soft and fluffy Arabic bread.
For dessert, had the Almond Cigars, an almond filled pastry that was coated with a syrup. It was very flavorful and decadently sweet, definitely not for diabetics.
Closed the meal with Mint tea. The pot was stuffed with plenty of mint leaves so the resulting tea was amazingly saturated in flavor.
Overall Tagine is an amazing ambassador for Maghrebi cuisine. Top marks for the fantastic food and the...
Read moreFood is great but service so so. Was there yesterday for my Birthday dinner with my family. Upon arriving, he only let my husband in and then closed the door on my parents? Feels like the owner only talks to my husband who’s French. And then we asked him to explain the menu in English and he actually said “Their English good enough to understand?” Like hello? We are Singaporeans. Of course we can speak and understand English fully well. Also, he commented it was the wrong way to eat couscous blah blah blah. Think it’s our freedom how we want to eat it, no? Oh and Not a single person even wish me Happy birthday as well. Overall, disappointing experience. Won’t come again. Go if only your are French, Moroccan, Tunisian, Algerian. You will most possibly be treated well. Cheers!
Update (since owner replied) Didn’t ask for a bigger table at all. Did not consume the cake at the restaurant. It was my birthday NOT my husband’s. Did not complain about the quantity of the couscous. Anyways, What I described above is a true experience. It’s a shame because the food is really tasty and authentic. Have been to Morocco before and I can say the food at Tagine is top notch. Was excited to dine in and specially chose this place to celebrate my birthday. Just hope everyone will be treated equally regardless of race and...
Read moreVery bad experience at Tagine Bali. I lost my appetite since first minute, upon arrival at 20:12, Jan 27, we wanted to sit on the sofa because I got a bit back-pain. The waitress said "No, this table only for 5, please set down back here because you are only 3 person". That time the restaurant was empty, why we can't sit on the sofa. Waitress said that is rule from the boss. At 20:20, 4 bule came, the same waitress was so nice offering them the table we wanted. I felt very insulted in front of my daughter and wife. Hi, though we are local, I came to Tagine for dinner because I know I can pay.
Then I asked my wife NOT to order anything as I WILL NOT order anything too. I allow my daughter only to get her dinner just because she was so hungry. I tried the food a bit and taste nothing special then we moved to Abunawas Restaurant where we finally love the warm welcome and nice hospitality yet great food.
one more thing, at Tagine, parking your car...
