Rumah Makan Torani (Pusat) - Kepiting, Pusat Seafood & Kuliner Balikpapan — Restaurant in Balikpapan

My parents used to come here only a few months ago and tell me how delicious the food was at this place and how good of a time they had. Now it has gone to absolute shit.

If you have a choice, PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE. The staff is unprofessional, service is horrible, and food quality does not match the price (this is if you can even order what you want since everything is out of stock).

We tried to order multiple dishes and were told they were out of stock. We then ordered different dishes and they said that was fine because it was available. An hour had gone by and only half of our food came. They then told us they no longer have the dishes we re-ordered in stock and that they were now out of stock. This was after waiting 1-1.5 hours after ordering initially. To quote a waiter, “we are severely understaffed and the chef right now don’t know how to cook this specific dish.” Then why have it on the menu??

After going back and forth trying to get the food we wanted, we gave up and told them to cancel everything. 2 hours had gone by since we sat down and that’s when we decided we’d have enough. We walked out still hungry.

If you want a massive headache and want to always check up on your food every five seconds to make sure it’s still coming, be my guest. I don’t know what happened to this restaurant but it needs a serious makeover.

I choose Torani when I came to Balikpapan simply because it is the only restaurant that still open when me and my colleague arrived at 9PM. But boy were we in for a big delightful surprise.

Since we haven't had dinner, we ordered Black Pepper Crabs, fried calamari and fried rice with jumbo orange juice to wash it all down.

The size of the serving are quite big especially for the crabs. The gave us 3 crabs in 1 serving. The Black Pepper sauce was very spot on and the crabs were very juicy and fresh (and big too). Compared to all the crab that I have had, it seems like the shell from this particular local crabs is thinner than average. Making it easier to crack open.

The restaurant it self has a so-so atmosphere, because to be absolutely honest, no one pay much attention on the atmosphere or the decor of this type of restaurant. Especially if the food are this good.

Owh.... If you want to choose your own seafood ingredients, they also have many ponds to contain the life sea creature that they offer.

Seingat saya ini pengalaman yang ketiga saya makan siang disini. Dan memang tetap saja julukan pusat seafood sangat pantas disematkan ke resto ini. Dengan tiga kali pengalaman makan siang dan beberapa kali makan malam saya merasa sudah saatnya memberikan ulasan ;) Untuk menu cukup banyak tersedia pilihan, terutama menu regular. Ada pilihan menu ikan bakar, ikan fillet, ikan sop (palumara atau jenis lain), cumi bakar, cumi tepung, begitu juga dengan menu ikan air tawar cukup banyak pilihan. Saya sendiri untuk makan siang kali ini (atas saran dan tanya-tanya juga dengan waitressnya :) thanks ya mbak) memilih menu ikan kakap sekitar 1.6Kg dengan menu di masak palumara dan fillet saus ala torani. soal rasa, nggak perlu ragu. dapat point 8 / 10 untuk ikan fillet, sedangkan untuk palumara 7,5/10. Safo tahu juga saya suka lho.. dan tentu sayur asem dan lalapan yang free of charge menjadi nilai tambah tersendiri... suasana cukup ramai, sehingga terlihat para waitress 'keteter' membersihkan bekas tempat pelanggan lainnya - bahkan ada yang sampai saya selesai makan-pun meja disebelah saya belum sempat dibersihkan :D parkir sangat luas, dan tempat sangat mudah dijangkau di jalan utama Balikpapan menuju bandara Sepinggan.
