We intentionally made a stop in Pekalongan during our train journey to Semarang just to dine at RM Bung Kombor Kepiting. Known for their specialty dish, "kepiting gemes," the restaurant came highly recommended in various reviews. Many reviewers suggested making a reservation and pre-ordering to ensure availability, as the crabs tend to sell out quickly.
Despite our last-minute decision to visit, we were fortunate enough to find that kepiting gemes was still available, although the crab with roe (kepiting telur) we initially wanted had already sold out. Alongside the kepiting gemes, we ordered serimping goreng mentega and cah kangkung bawang putih. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, especially when paired with warm white rice. The kepiting gemes itself was outstanding—the crab meat was tender, plentiful, and full of flavor. The restaurant has a welcoming ambiance, and the staff was accommodating despite our impromptu visit. To make the most of your experience, it’s highly recommended to book ahead and pre-select your menu, especially if you have specific preferences like crab with roe.
RM Bung Kombor Kepiting is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. Their kepiting gemes lives up to its reputation, offering an unforgettable culinary experience. Combined with other flavorful dishes and a comfortable dining atmosphere, it’s well worth a detour to Pekalongan. Don’t forget to plan ahead for the...
Read moreTheir signature dish is kepiting gemes (crab with super nice sauce). The sauce is a bit spicy for kids, but the crab is super nice and fresh. One portion is about 200k and you get 3 medium sized crab. We tried the shrimp (udang goreng mentega). It is also good and fresh, the size is satisfying. But the vegetables and anything except the main dish is just OK. The resto itself is a family resto and the ambience is just super standard, but it is quite...

Great crab, Kepiting Gemes. And it surely made me "gemes" as I can't get the large crabs. However, affordable price with tasty seafood. Sweet but not spicy.
They also have a nice Sriping Goreng Mentega, that tended to sweet. It was just ok from me as I expected more salty - as general goreng mentega.
Their sea shrimps was also incredible with terasi sambal. Very nice lunch before I depart to...
