After a long 3 hr motorbike ride across Flores we chose Atlantis On The Rock for our last special treat before we caught our flight home. I had seen the photos, heard of it's reputation and was ready to be wowed! We had a false start as Google maps directed us to a dead end, along the coast line, ending up on the other side of a fence to the restaurant, so we had to turn around and try again. Not what we needed after a long ride, but I was sure it was going to be worth it! When we arrived at about 1pm, the view was stunning, and even though it was a warm day the open air restaurant was shady and just cool enough and the chairs comfortable. The big disappointment was the menu. We were ready to eat a feast, but there was nothing on the menu we could eat except for potato chips. OK silly me, I should have checked, I should have realised, it seems the menu is focused on seafood and we don't eat seafood, and the only vegetarian dish wasn't available as they had run out of avocados. So we thought OK let's go straight for desert, but that wasn't available either. The next problem was the service. While there was a lot of staff, they were all trainees and couldn't help us or understand what we were asking for, or in one case ran away to avoid helping (at that point I just needed the wifi password). In the end, feeling very frustrated, I got up and went to the bar to talk to the manager. After some time someone was found and I asked with such a beautiful restaurant, and huge kitchen with a wonderful cook, couldn't they prepare something, anything vegetarian? I was then told that they could make a vegetable Thai curry. Yes please! It was delicious. I would highly recommend they add this and a couple of other vegetarian dishes to their menu, as there are always people in a group who can't eat seafood. In the end we were really sad that we couldn't come and just enjoy a long beautiful indulgent lunch while we waited for our flight, instead it left us hot...
Read moreWe decided to go for dinner here while staying at a different resort because we heard very positive things about this restaurant. The restaurant has different seating options, and also offers various packages with tge seating options. We didn’t opt for a package as we wanted a full dinner. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 17:00 and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We got a table near the front, with a beautiful view and ordered some cocktails and water. The cocktails were okay, but nothing exceptional. We then took a stroll on the pier which belongs to the restaurant and also fed the fish by the pier (there are feeding stations along the pier). Upon returning to our table we had our appetizers and they were okay but not particularly special. We they wanted to order the main course but many options were unavailable. There was no lobster, no barracuda, and only grouper available as the only fish option. This was disappointing to us. We ordered our mains and then enjoyed the beautiful view some more. The main courses were good, but not the best we had in Labuan Bajo. The presentation and flavor simply aren’t of the standard you would expect in a hotel like this. Unfortunately the restaurant plays music rather loudly so you cannot hear the waves from the beach below. Indonesians seem to enjoy the music, as this is common in most restaurants. We found it a pity not being able to listen to the waves. That said we will come back for the view, the ambience, and the staff. View: 10/10 Staff: 10/10 Ambience:...
