Summary: Very good American-style pizza and pasta at a reasonable price.
Note: I'm a bule (foreigner) who is part European and has traveled the world. I've lived in New York City and also have tried pizza and pasta throughout Italy and Europe. I am a bit of a pizza snob and I'm writing and rating from that perspective. Local taste and your taste might differ.
Details: I try to rate places in context. You can't expect pizza in Indonesia to be equal to pizza in the US or Europe, just like you can't expect the best Indonesian food in America. This pizza would be a solid 3.7 in NYC or Europe, or a 4 in suburban America. For Indonesia and for Jakarta specifically this place is easily a 4.5. From a pizza snob, believe me that's a compliment. I struggled with whether I should rate it 4 or 5 stars, but I figure I should save 5 stars for the rare artisanal pizza place or the expensive places doing authentic Napoleotan-style pies. Plus, it's currently rated 4.7 on Google Maps which I think is fair, and my 4 won't hurt their average much. Unfortunately, the truth is 4 stars is underselling the quality of this place, so if you are reading this and are also not sure if they should get a 4 or 5, go ahead and give them a 5 to balance the universe.
The pizza is more "New York style" than authentic Italian, but that's not a criticism. They even advertise "New York style" outside. Some people prefer American-style pizza to Italian-style and there is nothing wrong with that. The crust is thin and crunchy with a bit of chew and the mozzarella cheese is standard American restaurant quality.
I got a truffle mushroom pasta whuch was also very competent. The sauce tasted of decent quality cream and was reasonably al dente. No hint of sweetness or lower quality dairy.
Overall, I was NOT disappointed. I wouldn't say I was impressed but I had a craving for good pizza and pasta and I left SATISFIED. I would definitely be willing to come back and try some other toppings or pastas. Again, given my background and experience that's great for Jakarta.
The prices are also reasonable. The location in Kemang is convenient, but the actual street is a bit dead. The restaurant itself is clean and modern, but nothing...

While this may not be the most opulent of establishments this little store proves its merit from the simplicity that good food and good service can stand strongly on its own feet and delivers the customer what it wants.
I got myself a pizza from this pizzeria, and by golly, I got myself a darn good pizza.
As a rule, I always pick the pizza where its most basic. Which is just cheese, tomato, basil and dough. The classic pizza. If you mess that up, then its just downhill for everuthing else.
I am very happy to say, it Gianni's did not dissapoint. From the size of the slice, the dough, the cheese, and the tomato, it tasted what I had hoped to have wanted from this establishment. It was homey and warm to the taste buds with the right bite to it.
It is difficult to say whether or not it reaches the standards of the pizza's mother origins, but safe to say I fully enjoyed it regardless and would happily...
Read moreThey recently renovated their place and updated their menu, and everything is super tasty. My top 3 pizzas would be the Notorious BEEF, Grinch, and Shrooms. From the other mains, I'd choose the P.Roll, a fresh prawn roll. They also serve soda with fun flavors, I've tried all of them and I like Gingerbread Butterscotch best. They also offer valet parking, so parking isn't a fuss. I like the new ambiance it's like you're really in a New York subway eating pizza, but you're in Kemang. Their staff is very helpful and lovely. Overall I had the best experience in this tiny New York-style pizza...
