Went to eat here after mostly favourable reviews. Sad to say it was not as good as described.
First impression when you arive, the distinct smell of the vinegar does gives you the expectation that the taste will be similar to the one in Singapore.
The mee pok was overcooked, it is like we were served a bowl of clump flat noodles. Some might find the mee pok too spicy as it was already pre mixed.
Topping was scarce (almost non existent) though the noodles plenty. Pork balls tasted more like fish balls rather than pork.
We also ordered the hokkien mee, unlike in Singapore the Hokkien mee here is just yellow noodle (egg noodle?), with basically the same toppings as the order of mee pok. So this was kind of misleading.
Ordered the platter. Chicken wings were undercooked (flesh was still pink and bloodied although the outside was crispy), was told later they did not have time to defrost the chicken 😕. The wanton is the only good thing on the platter. I do appreciate that we did not have to pay for the platter as we were unable to consume any of the chicken.
In general I do not get how people could rate this place so highly comparing this to the one in SG. I have stayed in SG for over 20 years and would say that even the mee pok in normal food stalls in SG are better.
Personally, the best authentic mee pok in SG (according to me) is still Tai Hwa Pork Noodles.
I can understand maybe the reason for such favorable reviews is the fact that the noodles are definitely different than normal noodles we have in Jakarta. However again I would say this is not a direct comparison to mee pok in SG.
As for the price. It is neither too cheap nor too expensive. Worth a special trip there? I would say no. Would I come back specifically for this? Currently not in the...
Read moreI ordered take away for the large portion of the meepok soup. The packaging is mediocre, paper bowl with 2 plastic bag of the soup. Which is too little for the portion. The sambal is pack in a seal bag 1 bag for 1 portion. ( Now if you ask for more soup and sambal they give you a few more extra packs.) Definitely miss eating my fishball noodles with the Malaysia/singapore cut chilli.
Let's get to the to the taste. The sambal is decent, but this will be different for every individual so I won't dwell on it. The noodle is well cook. The fish ball is bouncy and super yummy just like the sort you would get in singapore. The meat ball has improved the texture is not quite what you expect for meat ball but the taste is ok. Fish cake has improved too it now have the texture and taste similar to those in Singapore. The last the minced meat since my last review they have improved now it test totally yummy. Well done.
Overall if you have craving for singapore fish ball noodle, here is definitely a place to get it.
They have address most of my issues and concerns over time, now they are my goto for my...
Read moreA really nice place to eat. The employees are all friendly, and the restaurant provides hot water to sterilize the cutleries before we eat. They serve the food fast, and it tastes reaally good! Definitely my first choice whenever I crave mee-pok. My favorite dish is their dry mee-pok, don't forget to ask for their 'ampas babi' to complete the dish.
I don't really like their meatball, but it's my preference, and you may even love it even if i don't. For the price, it's medium to high-end side. A small portion of the mee-pok will cost you around IDR 45,000, medium around IDR 60,000. Keep in mind that I might be wrong about this pricing as they may change it or I can remember it incorrectly, check their menu for further detail. But the difference between the small vs medium portion is only their shrimp (according to their employees) so as I don't really eat shrimps, I prefer the small portion over the other.
They are open early, so it's a good choice for...
