Yesterday evening, we visited Mike P’Jazz, a new jazz club in Kemang that was advertised by Mike Pizza at the beginning of August. We decided to give it a try. My wife had been to Mike Pizza before and spoke positively about the food, so we thought it was a good opportunity to go early and have dinner as well. When it comes to Italian cuisine, I think you can find almost everything there with good taste. We tried the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, Carbonara Special, Crema di Funghi, and Mike’s Onion Soup. All were very good, and the prices were in line with the Kemang average. The portions, however, seemed larger than the Jakarta average—more like US-sized portions 😊. After dinner, we moved to the jazz room. It’s located in the same complex but separate from the restaurant. You can still order from the same menu, though in my opinion the setting isn’t ideal for a full dinner. Snacks and light bites are fine, but you’d struggle to enjoy, for example, a soup in that space. The room itself is L-shaped, with a billiard table in the center that’s converted into a dining table with a cover. Unfortunately, the tall bar chairs around it don’t match the regular table height, making it uncomfortable. Guests tend to prefer the sofas, though they’re not at their best either—still acceptable, though. I think making that central table setup more comfortable would improve the experience, especially for solo visitors. That said, the ambience was very cozy, perfect for a jazz club. The sound system was excellent, letting you hear every melody clearly. The audience was diverse in age, which made it feel welcoming for everyone. The crew was polite and attentive, adding to the comfort. Although the program was scheduled to start at 20:00, it actually began at 20:55—which seems to be a common practice. Before the music started, Mike’s wife warmly welcomed the guests and introduced the band. She was very gracious. The band of the night was the Rega Dauna Quartet. This was my first time experiencing a harmonica-led jazz band, and it was wonderful. Rega plays as if he’s speaking through the harmonica. Mikhail Al Rabbdia on guitar delivered some excellent solos, Ferdinan Chandra on contrabass anchored the entire session beautifully, and Shallom Tangki on drums provided a perfect groove. Their repertoire was well curated and balanced. Unfortunately, we could only stay for the first set—I wish we could have stayed longer. I truly wish success for this new jazz club. I’ll definitely be following their program, and it’s a place I can see myself returning to again and again. Final note to the crew: as mentioned, they were very polite and their service was excellent, which really elevated the...
Read moreThis is my first ever one star review, I’ve never wrote reviews before but my experience here in this restaurant made me want to write one. I happened to be kemang area, and decided to come here since I’ve heard good reviews about how good their food tastes. We reached out to them for reservation last minute, and fortunately we got one. When we came, the place was super hot. Have you ever felt like your cheeks are burning whenever u stand too close to the fire? Well that’s what it felt like when They gave us a table next to the wood-fired stove. It wasn’t the typical hot air but the cheeks burning hot. I told them, we wanted indoors table and they didn’t tell us ahead that we got an outdoor table. They said the indoors table were full. So we said we’re just gonna wait until there’s an indoor table available. While waiting, they gave us appetizers which were two slices of bread that were burnt. At first I thought it was normal, but then since we sat right next to the wood-fire place, I saw them made the appetizers for another table, and theirs weren’t burned. I’ve attached pictures to show you the proof. The host told me that the first indoor table that’s empty is gonna be ours. But After waiting for 20 minutes and seeing multiple guests left, they still didn’t call us. And we still waited while sitting in that super hot, next to woodfired table. My friend decided to go to the restroom at the back, and after he came back, he said “let’s just leave”. I was confused but I just followed. After walking out, he told me, while walking to the restroom at the back, he noticed a lot of empty tables indoors. It was almost 8 o’clock, and the chances of ALL of those tables being reserved to be honest, is highly unlikely. So basically, until now, I don’t know why they did us so dirty like that. I can promise you I didn’t yell at the waiter or anything like that to make them treat us like that. We waited quietly, just with frown on our faces, but we didn’t do anything bad that would justify how poorly they treated us. This was the first time I had received such a poor service and discrimination. Hope you guys...
Read moreWe have been there several times. It is on my list of 4 Italian places that I like to go to, in the 3rd or 4th place, of all those I have tried in the city. I love their dishes. The pastas, meats, pozzas, are good. It is difficult to find that resemble real Italians in terms of material/flavors/textures. The chef and staff are attentive and pleasant as well. The only thing they should IMPROVE, I say this with appreciation, is the TIRAMISU 🫠🫠. It is one of my desserts that I usually order every week in different places that I try here, like in Italy, Argentina, etc. etc. The truth is that they should improve it. It is a shame that it is so bad and different, it surprises me... the truth, since the menu is good. I do not know what they use as a chemical white cream type product, as if it came out of a bottle, almost tasteless, chemical I repeat... that is not right. The tiramisu cream is with mascarpone cheese and eggs. Far from it. It also has biscuits, or whatever they call it here, and it is moistened with sweet Marsala wine, or at least Amaretto or something similar that they have… you can’t taste any sweet wine… I mean, it doesn’t look like tiramisu. It looks like an Indonesian dessert… with chemical cream or powder, something like airy bread… moist with gula aren syrup and some coffee, sprinkled with Milo. - And the Mike salad that has anchovies, practically doesn’t have anchovies… I mean, at the end I found salad 1 or 2, I almost don’t remember because as I say it didn’t have, tiny but really tiny, little pieces of anchovy tips… far from having any anchovy flavor at some point, the colors of anchovy that there were were so tiny that it didn’t leave any flavor. points regarding the Menu. And the other thing, the parking for motorcycles… since the area is not very comfortable or clean to leave the motorcycle on the street, it is better to go by car. - The rest, as I said,...
