Without a doubt this is definitely the best experience i have had eating road side seafood in Jakarta. Not only did they serve arguably the cleanest and freshest seafood compared to most other road side stalls or restaurants, they also offer platters with clear pricing and they certainly prepared their sauces well rather than like how some others may only treat sauces like an afterthought.
The platter consisted of prawns, squids, and two types of clams. They also added some well prepared broccoli and corn to contrast the colours, the flavours, as well as to provide a bit of very welcome fiber to reduce the sinful feeling one might otherwise feel when chowing down on such a platter. However, what really shocked me was how good and clean everything tasted. Most other purveyors in Indonesia (at this level) seem to somehow still have some grit in their clams - this one didn't. They clearly cleaned everything meticulously and most of their clams tasted sweet - again, this is a noticable difference to most others. They also clearly know how to cook squid and prawn as to avoid them becoming springy, and they clearly know that one should only blanch broccoli ever so slightly.
For the sauce we chose the saus Padang since it usually goes really well with seafood due to its slightly sweet, slightly tangy, and slightly spicy flavours. I was very happily surprised to find that this one really did not skimp on the garlic and ginger without making it too garlicky or too spicy - it just permeated a warm fuzzy feeling as you gulp it all down. This sauce clearly balanced everything perfectly to make you want more without overpowering the dish - I would have preferred something spicier but i found that it conveyed just the right amount without burning my mouth.
Finally, it could probably feed 3 people, but even if you overstuff yourself (like i did) you probably won't have that tummy ache and remorse like how other dishes may make you feel.
So clearly this place serves great value and i would definitely want to visit it...

Nah, berhubung hari ini lagi ada kesempatan mampir di Mangga Dua Square dan hari mulai sore, sementara perut mulai meronta-ronta minta di refill,, berpikirlah bareng istri kira-kira mau "isi bensin" dimana. Dan, teringat sebuah, dua buah, beberapa kisah di masa lampau ketika kami berdua menikmati lezatnya kulineran kepiting di Sarang Kepiting.. maka, kepitinglah yang kami putuskan menjadi menu malam ini!! :D
Memutuskan untuk berhemat selagi pandemi masih berlangsung, niatnya di awal hanya akan order kepiting dan nasi putih saja, tapi dalam perjalanan menuju lokasi opsi menu bertambah dengan seporsi sayuran hijau (supaya sedikit terasa makan sehat), yang kemudian saat tiba di parkiran bertambah lagi dengan sepiring potongan buah mangga segar, hingga akhirnya dilengkapkan dengan tambahan menu tahu goreng saat pantat baru mencium kursi tamu.
Seperti biasa, menu kepiting paling favorit kami disini adalah Kepiting Lada Hitam, mantap terasa bumbu lada hitamnya, bahkan rasa-rasanya sudah cukup makan nasi putih dengan cocolan kuah bumbunya saja. Seporsi berisi 1 ekor kepiting ukuran sedang, pas untuk berdua (hari ini ternyata hanya tersedia kepiting telur saja seperti di photo). Lalu, untuk menu sayuran hijaunya, kami pilih favorit kami lainnya yaitu Cah Daun Ginseng. Menu ini benar-benar jadi kesukaan istri sejak pertama kali dicoba dulu. Sudah beberapa kali coba buat di rumah, tapi rasanya belum pernah sama dengan disini. Enak beneran, hahahh. Untuk menu tahu goreng ya standard ya: tahu putih kubus ukuran standard digoreng langsung, lalu dihidangkan barengan sambal kecap untuk cocolannya. Nah, disini juga ada tersedia itu tadi, potongan mangga segeerrr. Jangan lupa di order, lumayan buat hidangan pembuka atau penutup. Mangga harum Manis yang segeerrr dan manisss :D
Untuk kisaran harga makan di Sarang Kepiting ini masih termasuk normal koq, jadi jangan khawatir di sisa bulan hanya makan mie instant saja. Jadi, jangan lupa, ayo mampir, cobain aja sendiri...
