Well well.. I'm just gonna drop the bomb here: it's not as good as the hype. I've wanted to come to this place for such a long time because some of my friends actually recommended it to me. Although my impression to 永兴, the main restaurant group behind 永乐, is not as good as it was back then (because the quality of their dimsums now are not as good as it was back then), I still gave this place a chance to prove that they're different. It turned out that, I wasn't wrong.
First of all, I love the place. The interior is giving me oriental vibes that I like. It's spacious both for the dining area and also the parking. And I mean it when I say the dining area is spacious. There are many tables avilable. The indoor area is also well air-conditioned. It has this warm and cozy ambience to it. Very comfy not just for having your meal but also to hang out with your friends.
Now here comes the food. I ordered the staples of dimsum restaurants such as hargau, siumai, cheongfan, etc on my first visit. I must say that the dimsums were acceptable. It's definitely one of the good halal dimsums out there. However, I do have problems with the flavor and also the texture of some of the dishes. The siumai that was served to me had problem with the texture. It broke apart easily and it's not supposed to be like that. The feng zhao (chicken feet) was too sweet for my liking. The rest of the dishes were okay, but they didn't stand out.
Also, I had problem with the service. First of all, some of the orders were mixed up. Some of the dishes delivered to my table were someone else's. The staffs look confused and weren't attentive. Some of the dishes I ordered were also were wrongly registered. The ordering system here was that you wrote what you want and then the staffs will register your order to your cart. However, although I had written my orders clearly with notes (such as whether the drinks are cold or hot, I circled my choices) they still came out wrong.
Last but not least, price wise, I couldn't also say this place is cheap. I've been to other dimsum places that sell much better dimsums with significantly cheaper price points. So that's also a turn-off for me.
I couldn't accept the justification that this place is a halal dimsum parlor hence the dimsums couldn't be as good as if they're non halal. Why? Because I've been to many other halal dimsum places that are better than this. So I don't think being a halal dimsum place justifies their lack of taste and flavor.
To me, this place is analogous with KFC or McDonalds - the dishes are acceptable, you don't mind coming back there, but there's nothing special.
Overall, 永乐 hasn't convinced me yet that 永兴 group is one of the best dimsums in town. It's...
Read moreUsed to be my go-to dimsum place. Always crave for the all variant of dimsum. But the last time i visited, I was really disappointed with the staff service. There were 7 of us who continued ordering the food for 2 hours. After 2 hours, we ordered something else to eat and drink. Few minutes later, the staff (who apparently the supervisor) came to our table and gave us the receipt and EDC and arrogantly said we had to pay as we had reached our time limit (the limit was 2 hours). We said we didn’t know about the rule and try to apologize about that but she argued the 2 hours limit had already written at the front (it was only written on blackboard 30x40cm size apparently) as we could always notice the small detail of the resto and without explanation from the staff before we sat or during the ordering process. We explained that we didn’t notice about the rule but she always tried to cut our speech saying that the rule was always there. We said we wanted to cancel the order but she said we couldn’t cancel the order as it was already input to the system with unpleasant face and voice tone. We argued about that and she said she gave us 10 mins to finish our last order food with FRESHLY HOT STEAMED PAO!!!! We still argued to cancel but she decided to give us 30 mins. We finished it then we left after 15 mins.
We could totally understand how packed winglok always be. But the bad gesture from the staff explained above make us disappointed. We can totally understand the situation and it is not wrong to have time limit rule as you always have a huge amount of customers. Yet you have to explain at the beginning or during the order VERBALLY and WITH A NICE GESTURE! Dude, we come there to eat and enjoy your food not to observe your entire rule.
Sorry winglok but this is too disappointing. May not come there any longer and i think the management need to arrange the training for the staff for how to handle...
Read moreI went here for the first time, fulfilling the hype wagon.
When I arrived the waitress didnt prepare us a ready to use table, we had to push the table to make space for us to sit.
Then they serve us with cutleries, stacked and wet inside a donatsu (plastic box) where the surface of the box feels sticky and damp. These cutleries that we received within the box are also wet, unproperly wiped. Especially the ashtray they even left dish soap foam on it.
Had a lot of foods that I ordered, starting off with the Ceker, the ceker smelled like the inside of a fridge. Then I had the salted egg pao, for a portion I got 3 pcs of it, tasted more like sugar custard and very slight flavor of the salted egg. Moving on I continued my meal to hakau, they have a medium size hakau which is okay.
For the main dishes I tried the porridge, sorry to say it taste bland, they provide us with sesame oil which taste bland with no sesame aroma at all.
When we wanted to order another item, the waitress was being unfriendly to tell us scan the wet and ripped barcode print out.
Lastly, we had some leftover to take away. They gave us a plastic bowl container only with lots of condiments on the lid without any plastic bag. They even put the sauce plastic inside a bigger plastic where its filled with sesame oil (picture below)
Overall I say that this place has been overrated and overly hyped. Definitely...
