My first time visiting this place, eventhough I've been living in this city about more than 20 years. Everytime my friends told me that they visited Kediri, They always said that this place was great. So, I decided to visit this place to see what's the crowd about.
As for me, I visited this place on wednesday morning. It was pretty quite and the interior was clean looking. I ordered a bowl of Soto, a glass of iced tea and a serving of one of their famous signature dish, Fried tofu. Another side dishes like salted eggs, potato fritters, and crackers were served on the table.
Soto wise, it was quite delicious. The chicken broth was coconut milk base, but taste clean and light. The saltiness was not overpowering even I hadn't mixed it with sweet soy sauce. The topping consisted of shreded chicken (they use Ayam Kampong), boiled bean sprouts, a dash of celery leaves, sambal and sweet soy sauce. For a bowl of Soto, it will cost you about IDR 16k and it is enough to filled you up.
Now, let's talk about their fried tofu. It was lika a oval shaped tofu, fried until the outside part is crispy then cut into bite sized served with a swirl of sweet soy sauce and sambal at the side. The tofu wasn't the dense kind, it was the soft kind which will form a spongey like texture when fried. It also wasn't that really salty (as the side dish supposed to be) which was for some people not really fond of. But for me, it was great (there was salt on the table if you want it to be really salty). This dish will cost you about 6k.
Overall, I am thinking the reason why this place is famous. For some people this could be a memorable place since the place had existed since 1926 and located in the busy area. Just imagine, growing up in this area, having breakfast here before you start the day. When you moved out, this place was the thing you will be really missed.
The atmosphere, cleanliness and the food are good, the price is okay (yet, quite expensive). It is a place that worth to try when you...

A legend soto in town.
Ordered 3 bowls of soto, it tastes nice. Served at warm; not too hot, just so so, could be eaten as it served. Its broth contains coconut milk, i think. It is difference with any other soto that i ever met.
On the table, there are soy sauce, slices of lime, sambal (not too hot anw) that can be added as your condiments, just put it as you favour.
Jeroan, perkedel, and telur puyuh are available on the table that is located in the middle. Crackers also available.
I was craving for chicken skin, but i didn’t found it anywhere. Maybe it is necessary to ask first to get it.
Please don’t be suprised. You will hear ‘brak’ sound several times. It is soy sauce bottle that smashed on table. It is done by the employee. I guess it was their uniqueness.
It was located not too far from the kediri rail station. Anyone who come to the city must come here to try this legendary food.
The ambience is unique, it is on the the corner of dhoho road, a crowd road in kediri. I think this interior had not been changed since long time ago, looks like dutch theme, i was very enjoy to be here. By the way, this place has many big windows, so the wind is blowing nicely, made this place feels cool and windy.
Now we are reach on the most uneasy thing; that is the parking space. As mentioned befor, It located at one of the crowdest road in kediri, dhoho street. Please consider it before you get here.
Dont worry if you do not bring enough cash, QRIS payment method is available here. I like cashless payment by the way hehehe.
Another thing, you could see at my attached images; the soto is served on a side...
Read moreBest Soto Legend in Town! This legendary soto stall, which has existed since 1926, is always full of visitors, especially during breakfast or lunch hours. The stall can accommodate up to 30 people. Visitors to this stall diverse from parents to young people, and children.
What's interesting is the use of wooden food display cases that have been deliberately maintained for a long time to contain salted eggs, perkedel, or other side dishes.
Soto is served in a medium bowl, with tiny sized rice as if gathered at the side of the bowl. This rice size is very comfortable for female or elderly visitors, or those who are on a diet. But for a man, it's too tiny😅
Another uniqueness is the abundant broth which is very clear. Soto sauce doesn't look like it shows any fat or oil at all. Soto uses free-range chicken. On top of rice sprinkled with soft celery and Capar (or short bean sprouts). These short sprouts are usually found accompanying rawon rice menus. The chicken is thinly sliced and neat, easy to chew and very tender. Taste of Soto Ayam has a typical chicken soup flavor; delicious, fresh, not greasy/fatty and soft like most typical culinary recipes from Kediri or inland Java. The broth is really delicious, especially when added lime🤤
Minus: difficult to find parking if you bing a...
