We researched this restaurant on the beautiful Alila property prior arriving to Bali. To taste their food but also to check out their resort for a possible future stay.
We made a dinner reservation and were both excited to see the property and restaurant. Upon arrival we were blown away on how beautiful the resort is. Just stunning! We were greeted by the most loveliest staff and they made us feel so welcome. We ordered their signature dinning experience that contains of multiple dishes in the most beautiful presentation. The food was great and we decided to come back for my birthday a few days later.
When we made the 2nd reservation my partner was in contact with their client experience manager who advised us that they have a buffet style dinner that evening but that we also could order a, la carte, which was our preferred option as we don’t prefer buffet style. Upon arrival at 9:00PM we were advised that a la carte isn’t an option any longer due to time and we were left with buffet. This really disappointed us, as we pre-selected some of our favourite a La carte dishes and it was my birthday. If we knew this we would have gone elsewhere.
The buffet food was quite underwhelming and bland for our liking with not that many options to chose from. We had 1 drink each. The bill came to idr3.8M which was seriously extremely high for what felt like not much and very underwhelming food.
We messaged this same experience manager to share our dissatisfied dining experience, but we still wanted to come back for lunch or dinner to eat from their a la carte menu. They offered us 15% off on our next visit, which is not that much.
Later that evening we both ended up with upset stomaches from their food, and ended up sick the next day. We advised her but never received a response back.

Read moreWe ate here for dinner our first night and were seated outside facing the ocean. We ordered the megibung - highly recommend for a fun, delicious, and photogenic spread. We especially loved the satay skewers. Our meal also came with a tray of different sauces (called sambal) to be eaten with a couple types of chips. Service was initially fantastic - our server even came around and inquired if we wanted refills on any of the sambals. However, as the restaurant got busier later into the night we quickly realized they were understaffed as it became more difficult to flag down a member of the staff. We were left unattended for 20-30 minutes waiting for our dessert only to have someone come by and let us know that our dessert had been burnt and the chef was remaking it. The server promised to come out with complimentary ice cream to tide us over while we waited. A couple minutes later she came out with the original dessert we ordered and said never mind, your dessert is ready. I guess the free ice cream had been rescinded?? We are understanding that things happen, but an earlier heads up would have been nice instead of sitting there feeling like we had been forgotten. Also, it would have been a nice touch to follow through with the ice cream.
While the food was great, the poor experience at the end of our meal turned our experience from 5 stars to 4. Also, the vanilla milkshake we ordered was thin and lacking sweetness (which is something we never say!) - wouldn't...
