We had been told by my wifes brother who was travelling with us and his son that he had heard it was a good place to go, we later found out he had taken this information from a facebook site he had been following called Armadale bogans or something of that nature.
For our family it was a little to graphic. We probably didn't research the place enough before we went to see if it was acceptable for younger children. I think if you have girls, younger girls it can also be a little worse also. We have 4 girls aged 4 to 8 and we haven't exposed them to the death side of things or the blood and monster looking pictures that are on display on the menu and all around the place.
Certainly for families who have older children I would say at least 13 years of age and above it would be a different experience for them.
We went because the place advertised face painting and a Walt Disney Lion King theme. They probably shouldn't have promoted that sort of theme as it gets families who have kids that age who relate to that theme thinking it would be a place to visit.
We sat down at a table for about 5 mins looked around and was a little disturbed by what we had decided to take our kids too. I then saw my 4 year who had picked up the menu eye balling the graphic pictures which accompanied the food and saw a slightly bewildered and confused look on her face. I immediately took the menu from her to have a look at what she was seeing as I hadn't seen the menu at this stage. I then took a look, i got the attention of my wife who was on the same page as I was and I showed her the menu. I then said let's get out of here in sure we can find another venue to eat at, my wife agreed and we hurried ourselves out of there straight away, much to the confusion of the waitress who was about to come over to ask us what we wanted to eat.
So in summary I would have second thoughts if your children have not been subjected to that sort of genre, horror and death etc and or if you have young children under 12 years of age and especially...
Read moreFrankensteins is an amateurish, old-school theme restaurant. The entire evening is cleverly constructed to have you 'trapped' inside their walls & have to buy your pre-dinner drinks; then your meal; then your follow up drinks; and additionally pay something to be face-painted to join in the 'horror' theme. The best money spent was on the horror make-up. However, being told we need to book for 7pm; then get sat in a 'holding room' with ridiculously uncomfortable stools to sit on; wait nearly 2 hours before the 'show' starts.... hence having no choice but to drink from their bar... was not exactly enjoyable. Meals are ordered then to be brought out later when we are seated in next room for the show. Eventually, we are all ushered into the theme room. A very tacky & amateur show follows; exceptionally loud live average band plays; followed by more average mimed theatrics.... then the loud band again. We saw heaps of live performers over 3 weeks in Bali - unfortunately this band couldn't hold a tune. Our meals weren't too bad, but not reaching the exceptional standards of most restaurants in Seminyak. Overall Frankensteins is not something we'd recommend. The best fun was the walk home a few blocks wearing our ghoulish make-up. Lots of laughs & shocked reactions from people on the street. The staff, as always in Bali, were lovely & we don't take away from the benefits of them being in regular employment. I reckon the owner ('ringmaster' we assume) rakes in millions while his staff are paid very...
Read moreMy night at Frankenstein's Laboratory was horrible from start to finish. The staff have the worst communication skills possible. We walked in through the Frankstein shop, where the disinterested employee proceeded to tell us that we were in the wrong area, and then told us it was next door and continued playing on her phone, without directing us to the correct area. When we got into the bar we ordered an IV cocktail bag that tasted like bag of syrup. Our second round of shots took 30 minutes and several reminders to arrive. Over an hour passes and our food still hasn't arrived. We are then told that this will be served during the show. Would have been nice to know that when we ordered the food. Meanwhile, we have signed up for face painting. A lady takes our name and tells us to wait until there is an availability. We don't see her again so we ask another staff member when we can have our face painted. He apologises and indicates that he will write down our names and take us over in a moment. We never see him again. By this stage my partner and I are getting increasingly frustrated, so we complain. Another lady comes over and demands to know our hotel name and room number and cannot come up with an explanation as to why she needs this information. The manager then comes over and does her best to infuriate my partner. The only horrifying aspect of this establishment is the cocktails and service! Avoid...
