Massa Kok Tong — Restaurant in North Sumatra

Memories of beloved franchise was the only thing that brought me back here. Alas, my sentimentality was my undoing.

The atmosphere was exactly what you expected to get from a kopi tiam; cozy, crowded and warm. Though it shouldn't be an excuse for poor service. The venue was kind enough to provide some sort of bell to the tables so as to alert the staff when you need service; but often times I find it easier to speak loudly or tug for attention.

Anyways, on towards the menu. Or the scarcity of it. The menu was what you'd expect from a coffee driven place. They focus on the coffee and make vain promises on the food. Especially for the lack of options. Despite all the attention grabbing series of savory food pictures, you'd be surprised of how many 'SOLD OUT's they let displayed over the menu. I find it harder to actually discover an available food item than getting a decent coffee in this venue.

And the owner, OH THE OWNER. How much more haughty can a person be. I came to this place with my mother. She was always a picky eater; given her health situation, so she took more time to choose the meals she actually could eat (and given the lack of available foodstuffs, it was actually a real challenging situation). Unfortunately for us, the owner was the one who waited on us. The impatience on her face and the annoyance in the tone of her voice was enough to take away any would-be savory taste from my palate. The owner changed her tone only when I discreetly implied my dissatisfaction and intent of negative review. WHEN YOUR PLACE IS SO DEVOID OF QUALITY, YOU DON'T GET TO VILLIFY YOUR CUSTOMER.

Anyhow, 2 out of 5; for the awful menu, an awful service and abysmal experience. Should've been a 1 of 5, but my merciful mother told me to be kind. Don't bother...

Review per tanggal 6 September 2019: kurang lebih tahun 2018 lalu, saya bisa dibilang lumayan sering menghabiskan satu atau dua jam di Massa Kok Tong cemara asri, paling tidak 4-5 hari dalam satu minggu. Alasan nya; sederhana. makanan yang enak, harga terjangkau dan ekonomis, suasana yang nyaman. namun hari ini saya kembali lagi kesini setelah lebih dari setengah tahun, dan alangkah kecewa nya saya akan hal yang saya alami.

Makanan sudah tidak lagi seenak yang dulu. Makanan paling favorit saya disini adalah pisang goreng spesial, dimana dulu mereka menggunakan tepung yg membuat hasil tampilan pisang nya keemasan dan lebih menarik, keju yang tebal dan lebat di atas pisang. coklat yang kental dan manis. sekarang, bahkan pisang nya tak lagi memiliki kesan.

Karyawan" nya sudah tidak seramah dulu. Bahkan saya mendengar teriakan dan desahan bercandaan dari daerah kitchen; yg secara tata krama, tidak menunjukkan professionalisme yg pantas.

Lalu fasilitas lagu, yg seharusnya mencairkan suasana malah lebih mengganggu. Tidak ada konsistensi tema yg konkrit untuk lagu yg dipilih utk mengisi tempat tsb, dari lagu pop modern, ke melayu, ke mandarin, dsb. dan entah siapa, seringkali mengganti lagu saat sedang berputar.

Jika memang hal" tsb yg saya sebutkan lumayan relevan, saya rasa itu cukup menjelaskan mengapa berkurang nya jumlah pelanggan yg duduk di Massa Kok Tong.

Saya masih memberikan tiga bintang karena tempat nya masih layak untuk di kunjungi, fasilitas untuk duduk dan mendapatkan makanan yg layak dimakan masih ada. Lalu kamar mandi masih terawat dan tetap dalam keadaan bersih. Namun beberapa kenyamanan sudah tidak lagi saya rasakan...

Not so pricey. Their pricing is quite reasonable. Nice Ambience and atmosphere. Good service. Unfortunately their black coffee doesn't suit me at all as it is not bitter enough for my taste. The portion...
