Let’s start with the good stuff first — and honestly, the noodle texture was great.
Unfortunately, that’s about where the excitement ended for us. Maybe our expectations were just too high. As big fans of bakmie, we had this place at the very top of our must-visit list in Pontianak after watching a glowing review on YouTube. But when we finally tried it, the flavor just didn’t hit the mark. This is only our own opinion.
Although we liked the type and the texture of the noodle, the dish as a whole lacked that oily, savory, umami punch we usually get from crab and pork bakmie elsewhere. We tried adding soy sauce and all the condiments on the table to reach the type of flavor that we desire, but it didn’t really help. We thought, a great bowl of bakmie should already taste amazing on its own, without needing much adjustment. And, with crab and pork in the mix — a combo that’s usually a guaranteed win — we were honestly a bit let down. But, perhaps it was just not match with our taste.
The place itself is small, tucked in a shop complex. When we arrived, there were no other customers inside. We came at 5 PM.
Service-wise, we were not amazed. We ordered hot sweet tea since it was raining that evening, but what came out wasn’t hot at all. We asked kindly for a replacement, and the second one wasn’t even warm either. So yeah, it’s a bit sad to say that the first spot on our food list turned out to be a miss.
Hopefully, things improve in the future! Because we actually like the type and the texture...
Read moreThe best bakmie! They serve with crabs, meat, tofu etc etc. The price has increased considerably. (35k per portion) really expensive in my opinion as its majority noodles. With that price you can het a decent plate of chicken rice with lots of meat! Place is quite clean. Always many people here. They are open until night time. Staff is ok... Service is really fast. Adequate parking place. But too many pengamen =.= Hard to enjoy your...

Maybe it was just coincidence too, but the day I visited this famous noodle stall, everything were just too salty, and no more included crab claw, have to pay extra. The other noodle stall was very crowded and had to que an hour or so, maybe that one...
