Asem-asem KOH LIEM — Restaurant in Semarang

Food 8/10, nothing too special, just your usual chinese restaurant, gak ngerti kenapa orang" belain ngantri segila itu (mungkin karena dibilang legend). Menu kodok mentega is pricey, porsi sedikit. Ketika masuk kondisi memang ramai karena lebaran, tetapi benar" tidak ada orang yg standby untuk mengurus customer (seharusnya bisa rekrut orang lah karena tau lebaran pasti ramai). Cust datang mengantri sendiri, ternyata setelah mengantri baru tau jika harus daftar nama ke pelayan untuk masuk waiting list (yang berarti gak peduli urutan datang, pokoknya ikut urutan waiting list, tetapi TIDAK ADA YANG MEMBERI TAHU/BAHKAN TULISAN pengumuman. DENGAN PROSESNYA YANG BEGITU, CUST DIBIARKAN TERLANTAR DI PINTU MASUK BAHKAN DI TEMPAT PARKIR TANPA BISA MAKAN SELAMA-LAMANYA KARENA TIDAK TAU KALAU HARUS DAFTAR NAMA. Sekalipun mau daftar nama untuk waiting list, pelayan yg mencatat nama hanya satu orang dan bahkan orangnya entah dimana, jadi kita harus keliling" sendiri di restoran yg besar itu untuk nyari 1 orang ini yg bahkan gk ada nametag atau apapun yg menandakan kalau dia pelayan disana). Setelah lama mengantri, akhirnya diarahkan ke meja yg baru mulai dibersihkan. Minuman keluar, kodok mentega keluar, tapi nasi dan asam"nya yg seharusnya hanya nyentong dan dihangatkan menunggu sampai satu jam. Grup" yg datang di belakang MALAH SUDAH KELUAR SEMUA, kita yg awal hanya di serve teh dan kodok mentega sepiring yang bahkan sudah dingin karena sudah menunggu terlalu lama. Akhirnya kita harus protes sendiri karena mereka bahkan gk perhatian kalau ada meja yg datang duluan tpi belum di serve (dimana kondisi resto sudah mulai sepi dan bbrp meja sudah kosong). And you know what THEY DAMN FORGET OUR ORDER. It's coming only after like 5 minutes setelah kita protes, yg berarti kita buang" waktu satu jam buat makanan yg 5 menit pun siap. Tidak ada permintaan maaf saat mereka mengantar makanan, akhirnya kita harus protes dulu baru mereka say sorry sekali. Nasi juga agak keras, untungnya kuah asem"nya hangat. Kodok mentega akhirnya kita minta hangatin lagi, untuk rasa untungnya enak. Well, considering prices, taste, and DEFINITELY SERVICE, WE'RE DEFINITELY NOT COMING BACK. Here's my rant of the day and bye cause this literally destroy our holiday experience...

First time visiting this gem nearby our Hotel at Simpang Lima, Asem-asem Koh Liem was the name of restaurant serving their signature dish Asem-Asem which is a flavourful beef soup with sweet and sour kick into it. They also serves another variant with Milkfish and Beef Tendons.

Broth was tangy and refreshing i guess it comes from the tamarind and the green tomato they've put in it.

Another must order is their Gimbal Udang which is a deep fried battered prawn cake.

I also love their Lunpia Semarang which is Semarang popular dish. A spring roll stuffed with bamboo...

Been eating in Koh Liem for years, since he was still around. I always enjoyed the food.

The asem asem was always little to sweet for me, I still tolerate it But last visit in the new place (Jan 2023), the asem asem is super sweet. May be the cook doesn't bother to try the taste anymore. The meat could have been more tender as well.

They don't seem to believe that less sugar is healthy. So consider this review as a diabetes warning. It's good, but eat in moderation. Or skip it, order their other food, which is...
