A Timeless Gem: The 75-Year-Old Soto Joint That Still Shines

Stepping into this iconic 75-year-old Soto joint in Semarang feels like walking into history. Despite its age, the restaurant is as lively as ever, with locals and travelers filling the tables—a testament to its enduring charm and quality.

The Soto here is simply extraordinary. The broth is rich and flavorful, simmered to perfection with traditional spices that have been passed down through generations. The balance of taste, light yet heart, makes it an unforgettable experience. Vegetarian diners can request a customized bowl, as the accommodating staff are happy to adjust ingredients.

What sets this place apart is its authenticity. The recipes that haven’t changed much over the decades, everything reflects a commitment to tradition. The staff, some of whom have been there for years, are warm and efficient, ensuring quick service even during peak hours.

This warung is proof that consistency is key. Despite its age, the Soto remains fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The bustling atmosphere, filled with the aroma of spices and the hum of conversations, adds to the experience.

Tips: Visit during off-peak hours to avoid long waits. Pair your Soto with traditional sides like perkedel or tempeh goreng. If you’re a vegetarian, communicate your preferences clearly—they are happy to accommodate.

This Soto joint is more than just a restaurant; it’s a culinary institution that continues to win hearts after 75 years. A must-visit for anyone...

Soto Ayam Bokoran is a legendary spot for Semarang-style chicken soup that no visitor or tourist should miss. The broth is light yet flavorful, with a subtle fried garlic aroma and a hint of pepper spice. It’s filled with tender shredded chicken, rice noodles, and white rice, making it a hearty and satisfying meal.

The wait can be a bit long, especially during breakfast hours, as the seating is limited. However, the flow of customers is fast, and the turnover is quick. You might have to share a table with others, but this adds to the cozy, family-like atmosphere of the place. Despite the crowd, the service is friendly and efficient.

The portion size of the soto ayam here is quite generous compared to other soto places we’ve tried in Semarang. One serving is more than enough for breakfast. Don’t forget to try their sate-satean (chicken satay) and telur pindang (spiced boiled egg)—they’re fantastic additions to your meal. The complimentary fried tempeh is also a highlight; it’s incredibly crispy and pairs perfectly with the soup when dipped into the broth.

Overall, Soto Ayam Bokoran offers an authentic and delicious dining experience. The combination of flavorful food, a warm atmosphere, and friendly service makes it a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a true taste...

The legendary Semarang-style chicken soup, one that visitors and tourists should not miss. The broth was light with subtle fried garlic flavor and a bit of pepper spice filled with shredded chicken, rice noodle and white rice. One can add sweet soy sauce, lime juice or sambal to personal preference.

The side dishes were just testaments on how this simple dish has evolved into perfection over time: fried tempeh, potato croquettes, skewered quail eggs, clams and sliced chicken thigh among others. I usually cut the croquette in half and then dunk them into the broth and enjoy them with a one spoon of everything.

The stall has been serving its customers in a hunble but quite clean place for ages. The place is always packed as it serves refreshingly delicious quality food at a very reasonable price. But regardless of how long the queue is, it's always...
