THE PLACE is a MUST TRY. It's always busy and must be the best place to eat super delicious local food. Just check what others are eating and point on that. The seat you, bring you rice and the food you ordered, there is a fridge as well. Even ice cold beers are available and accompanying this delicious food perfectly. Our favourite were the pork dishes. Fatty Pork cubes with the special black powder spice cooked in a banana leaf in bamboo or the long stewed pork chunks in broth. Both a heaven for pork eaters. Also the special pork soup with peanuts is a very delicious treat. The duck was seasoned very well, but a bit boney. The innards are also super delicious. We came three times in a week and recommend to be there before noon, as it can get very crowded. For dinner there might be not much left over. Great value for the money as well. Warning: The Sambal might come straight out of hell, as it is made with the special Toraja Chili, which is the second spiciest chilis in the world. Try it carefully, but it's super delicious! Everything was perfect and the people are all very patient...

The piong is savory, smokey, and juicy with a bit bitter taste from the leaves. It pairs very well with hot rice and the chili condiment made from local chili known as katokkon (warning: very spicy!)
Other than that, I’d recommend sup brenebon. Red bean soup with pork meat and broth. The portion is huge and filling, totally worth it.
Price: meat dish (35k), vegetables (5k), rice (5k), and water for free.
Came here for lunch and came back to packed some piong for carry (up to 4 days without fridge).
A must-try for local...
Read moreBest local taste in Rantepao. They have best local food called Pa'piong. It is pork chops cooked in a bamboo with banana leaves wrapping. They also have other foods like chicken, fish, and eel with local taste. If you are an adventurous foodie like me, you'll love it. Because they have a very unique taste even in a country with wide taste variety in Indonesia.
Dont forget to try these foods with local chilli (tomato shaped chilli called 'katokon'). This kind of chilli also has a very unique taste. It might be too spicy for foreign tourist. They usually available in big or small scale...
