Depot Mekarsari — Restaurant in Surabaya

Someone recommended this place. He said it was cheap and tasty. False!! We came in for lunch. We ordered 20 pieces, 1 gule and 2 plates of white rice, 3 hot tea, and 1 bag of chips. 255K rupiah total. The meat is tough, chewy and not very tasty. Few beggars came in asking for money/food. Also some street musicians (not good ones) came and sang some random songs. Very annoying. Few flies were around. It was hot, no AC. I would NOT recommend this place. It was my first time eating on the spot and the nuance is very nice, it is an old way seating with wide countertop table (which is very nice for people to have a chat and discuss while eating). The selection menu are really good starting from satay and sheep curry (a fantastic choice is the curry in my opinion). The meat is yet tender and juicy but not lost its texture of sheep meat, it is also savoury when you dip it into the nut-sauce. The beverage is also various from hot tea...

Been here now and then because of the good sate kambing and we can choose whether we want the meat only or mixed with some fat or goat liver. But the last time I ate here, I noticed the sate have different taste than usual. The sate taste like lost some kind smokiness, which grilled food usually has. Hope when I'm back having lunch here again the taste will back...
