By far, Meatshop & Gourmet has the best American steaks Surabaya West has to offer.
The restaurant's first level is divided into 2 sections: imported ingredients market and dining area, which expands to the second level. The dining area is further divided into 2: one section with dim lighting and open ceiling covered with imitation leaves, and the other section brightly lit with closed ceiling.
We could choose the type of meat we want grilled, with the weight of each steak already predetermined by the shop. This includes chicken and salmon. Other than the preset weight of meat, we have a lot of choices to choose from for the potato, vegetables, and sauce.
They also serve salads, pasta, and burgers. We were able to have some smoked salmon added onto our ordered Caesar salad at additional cost. A lot of choices can also be found if you want to have a drink during your dining experience.
The overall flavour balance of the steaks heavily depends on the choices of steak, each of the sides, and the sauce. Having knowledge on what spices and condiments suit each meat definitely helps with getting the right choices, but if you are not that familiar with the topic, the staff are more than happy to assist when asked. The steaks we ordered were grilled well and presentation was beautiful.
One thing that they may improve on is the way they handle their breads.
The croutons on the Caesar salad, although fried nicely with rich flavour of garlic, were cut too big and caused the butter flavour to be too rich (as we couldn't fit the crouton and the salad together in our mouth).
The pesto bread crust had nice flavour as well, but the oil from the pesto soaked into the bread crust so much that it became soggy during serving.
Price absolutely falls to the more expensive side, but perfect for occasional culinary...
Read moreMeatshop, the Meat and Butcher Gourmet Shop, continues to be an undisputed champion in the realm of culinary satisfaction. My recent lunch experience with my family of four reaffirmed why this establishment holds a special place in our hearts.
Having visited Meatshop on multiple occasions, I can confidently say that consistency is their forte. The restaurant exudes a warm and inviting ambiance, creating the perfect setting for a delightful family meal. Even with quite a crowd today, the atmosphere remained vibrant, adding to the overall enjoyment of our lunch.
The menu at Meatshop is a carnivore's dream, boasting an array of premium cuts and gourmet delights. Each dish is a testament to the chef's dedication to quality and craftsmanship. From succulent steaks to mouthwatering burgers, every bite is a symphony of flavors that leaves a lasting impression.
While we indulged in our culinary adventure, we did encounter a slight delay with one of the dishes. However, the staff handled the situation with grace and ensured our overall experience remained exceptional. Their professionalism and dedication to customer satisfaction were truly commendable.
The value for money at Meatshop is undeniable. Despite spending around 1.4 million rupiahs for a family of four, the quality of the ingredients, the skillful preparation, and the overall dining experience make it a worthwhile investment.
In conclusion, Meatshop stands as a testament to gourmet excellence. Whether you're a dedicated carnivore or simply seeking a memorable dining experience with your family, this establishment delivers on all fronts. Read moreEDIT: I'm adding this because I have seen an increase in this issue with steaks. I don't mind paying a premium for excellent meat but I will need to be more careful with each piece going forward when I select it. They are pieces fitted together. When you are grilling, you want a solid steak. Not a piece in plastic that when you unwrap it, it is three pieces stuck together. Please see my picture of four steaks below. I find this in the Australians, American, sirloin, ribeye, Scoth fillet, tenderloin, all of the cuts.
Definitely the best butcher shop in Surabaya. It also has a small restaurant but I have not eaten there. In addition to meat there are a lot of imported food items available. The meat tends to be a mix of USDA prime or choice and dry aged which is very good quality, very well priced, and always tasty. The Japanese Wagyu full blood is excellent but pretty expensive. The Australian, Kiwi, and some of the south American meat is fine though I had some really unexceptional steaks from my last visit that disappointed. I would like to see a wider variety of cuts rather than just filet or ribeye or T-bone. Maybe some flank steak or ribeye roast, or brisket to mix it up. Overall, very glad this place exists so I can feed my...
