Spent one night in the Garden Bungalow in the Beach Club. We arrived early so we sat at the beach club until they are able to check us in, which is fine. Ordered food, only to have it arrive over an hour late because of a “system error” even though we were pretty much one of the few guests on the beach at the time. The positive point here is that when the food did come, it was actually pretty good! Ordered the fish and chips. They checked us in late! Around 2.45PM when we finally were allowed to check in the room. At first glance, noticed that the bed sheets are stained, floors are all wet, and mosquitoes are pretty much everywhere. Obviously being tired from soaking in the sun all morning and thinking it’s just one night, we ignored it and just got some rest. Later at night, the nightmare started! Next door seems to be a restaurant that turns into a nightclub at night where they had blasting music until almost 4 am!! I understand it was Friday night and people like to party but certainly it shouldn’t be until that late in a supposedly the quiet island of the three Gilis. We tried contacting the reception throughout the night about the blasting music but no one answered nor bothered to respond next morning when they saw our messages. Overall I’d say the positive points are the location being right on the beach, good food and the privacy of the room. Negative points are checkin process, service and housekeeping! Also it would be great if you would let your guests know about any potential noise happening so that...
Read moreIt is amazing but I give it a 3 for 2 reasons:
The management decided not to differentiate between Scallywags Smugglers and "normal" Scallywags.
As a result: You book a place in the coastline and the place (smugglers) is, indeed inland. Obviously when you choose coastline you choose to pay a bit more for this...when you arrive and realized is not in the coastline you feel partially scammed.
Their only explanation is a verbal story: "we told booking to change it, that is not clear...blah blah blah"
Recommendation for the owner: Create a New "hotel" for Smugglers specifically. This way the map will show the correct location... And this is assuming they don't know this that of course they do. On booking one place has one location on the map and no more.
The payment status was not clear from any front. We booked in advanced and thought they took the payment in advance due to the bank statements.
Multiple clients were having a long discussion on checkout because this is not clear.
Recommendation for the owner:
Do like everyone else does in Booking: you either take the payment in advance (and leave it clear) or pay on arrival...but do not leave this to the checkout time.
If you do request this on arrival customers have a lot of time to check the bank statements. And don't have a sour end to the experience of staying at Gili Air.
Apart from that we recommend having a coconut on the beach and enjoy the amazing view of...
Read moreA positive assessment for this 4-star hotel: The staff is exceptionally kind, helpful, and always available. The cottages are incredibly cozy and offer all the necessary comforts, including a four-poster bed with a mosquito net, air conditioning, and a unique indoor-outdoor shower. Housekeeping is impeccably done, and complimentary bath products are provided to guests.
Moreover, the location is extraordinary; we are right on the beach with private sun loungers reserved for hotel guests and access to a pool.
However, the negatives accumulate when it comes to dining. We had breakfast included with our reservation, but it falls short. You can only choose a beverage and a side (like bacon pancakes), which is not substantial enough.
Additionally, the hotel has a restaurant for lunch and dinner, but the service is exceptionally slow, taking 45 minutes to be served. Furthermore, there are significant communication issues between the dining area and the kitchen. Servers have to return multiple times to inform diners that certain dishes are unavailable.
Furthermore, the Wi-Fi does not function properly and has a weak signal, which is a downside for a hotel of this caliber. Reliable internet access is essential, even just for planning...
