Warung Java — Restaurant in West Nusa Tenggara

I've traveled Indonesia for quite a bit and ate in many warungs, including the most modest ones, and I've never got so close to get a food intoxication like when I ate here. The chicken smelled so bad (even after being fried) that it was impossible to eat the dish. In the rice, there was a piece of a plastic bag. They just store the ingredients for far too long, as the clientele is just not there. And when the ingredients include meat... Well you can imagine. It might have been excellent before, I don't doubt it, but now it's another story. A lovely small stall just behind the row of stalls facing the beach. Be sure to keep an eye out for the sign as you might miss it. They dishes available are all local and it's always a nice change after you have had enough ofthe Western dishes offered else where. As you can see from my picture that I was a little to hungry and decided to munch on the chicken once I got it. A must try and be sure to tell the lovely lady if you can handle the spice or not. :) bon appetit

This is one of the best warungs on the entire island. They execute the food they offer very well. The price point is fantastic and the food is great. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The menu is not vast but it doesn't have to be. Try the bakso and you won't be disappointed. They also do the satay very well too.
