My favorite Bubur Ayam in Yogyakarta!
I frequently ordered them via Go-food, and it turns out their foods, whenever ordered for dine in, are much cheaper. For comparison, their Bubur Hayam Special for dine in is IDR 18K, and it is IDR 26.4K IN GO-FOOD (before delivery fee and etc).
BUT, does that translate to an infinitely more worth it to just eat dine in at their place? Uhhh, sadly no...
Smol place with too many smol tables. Hot. The trash can is very menacingly placed in the middle. It is higher than peoples when they are sitting. Why, though?
I do think if you are blessed with a comfy place, you would enjoy more eating Bubur Hayam from the comfort of your own place. But if you value the money differences from dine in and online ordering more than the eating experience, you do you.
I guess it kinda downs to the initial expectation. Their concept is cafe-like. I guess it was a cafe place once. But if they are a roadside merchant to begin with, I wouldn't be this picky about their buildings and layouts.
Anyways, I love the food. For me, it's so...
Read moreWas curious about this place for sometime, partly because of this longing for Bubur Ayam that has been so long. But! This place is a bit, um, expensive might be the right word. Taste would be so-so I'd say, there is no clear difference beetween your regular day-to-day Bubur Ayam Jakarta, while the price is reasonable in Jakarta but this is Jogja. IDR 10K plus tax for a Bubur Ayam is okay if, and only if, it has another strong points. Sadly, it isn't. The place itself is small, so narrow that I can hear what the couple beside me talking about, so definitely not a place for your intimate place. While I appreciate they actually does the health protocol in this place, but it's not to the letter. A bit stricter procedure might be a good addition. Since the place itself could be quite crowded. The server are very helpful and kind tho'. So it's a plus thing, I think. And they're very fast as well. So, I wonder. Anyway, good job for the...
Read moreA modern porridge shop in town! Bubur Hayam Kotabaru mainly sells two types of porridge: chicken porridge and black sticky rice porridge.
The chicken porridge can come with egg and/or chicken liver and gizzard (rempelo ati). It is served dry without broth and vegetables, but you can add broth from one of the bottles (didn't figure this out until my second visit!) and add vegetable toppings from the canisters on the table. Might not be the best chicken porridge in town, but it tastes ok with a generous portion.
Meanwhile, the black sticky rice porridge is delicious! Served with chunks of mango and vanilla ice cream instead of coconut milk, the porridge is not too sweet. Just right for your dessert!
For the location, it is easy to find with quite easy parking. The seating plan is not too big though, so it is almost always packed. Overall, relatively cheap and...
