We decided to try McGabhann's on a spur of the moment as most restaurants were booked up in Cavan town Friday 2 weeks before Christmas. Lovely comfortable restaurant, nice decor and the staff were very friendly. We were slightly concerned as we were literally the only customers in the restaurant but everything seemed fine so we stayed put! My partner ordered steak with mushrooms onions and mashed potatoes. We were told they don't do any other potatoes except chips or wedges. When we expressed surprise at this the waitress said the chef only does "spuds" on Saturday or Sunday. I ordered lasagne with coleslaw and we also ordered a bottle of chardonnay and we sat back to enjoy our evening. Food arrived but coleslaw missing. No mention from waitress until I enquired and was then told the chef had no coleslaw left. Lasagne was very tasty and my partner said his steak while a but fatty in places was nicely cooked and very good. As we were enjoying the the evening despite the minor hiccups we decided to have two more glasses of wine. We asked for 2 glasses of the chardonnay we had but were told it was only served by the bottle. We then asked for the house white which seemed to confuse the young waitress so we asked to speak to her supervisor. The other lady then arrived and told us the only wine she could serve us by the glass was either a pinot grise or a sauvignon blanc. Since there were only three white wines on the menu that seemed a bit strange. So at that point we just got the bill, paid and left. It felt like this place has so much potential but is just being let down by a few small details. As things stand tho we...
Read moreExcellent time in An Cruiscin in Cavan. We (my wife and 2 boys) where in Cavan town this cold morning and needed a place with a bit of comfort to warm up and get some food. Noticed An Cruiscin as we drove up the Main Street on the watch out for somewhere to drop in. Nice advertisement for food outside and plenty of parking so we decided to go in. Greeted by a pleasant face from behind the lovely traditional bar. Given s choice of seats and sat down to a lovely spacious table. The comfortable feeling of the heating was the second welcoming feeling. Got menus, ordered food and coffee and sat back. Great small chat with Amanda who had greeted us. Food and coffee arrived and it was lovely!! Delighted with our visit due to a number of reasons, will definitely be back again. Strongly recommend An Cruiscin, best place I have been in a long while. Great service, facilities and the cleanliness...
Read moreMy partner and I spent our 10th anniversary in Cavan and decided to try some of the local Irish pub grub. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the music was entertaining and I felt as if I could have a conversation without feeling like I had to shout to be heard. The staff are so friendly and welcoming will definitely be back again just on this alone. For food my partner had the 8oz steak burger, staff ask you allow 15 minutes of a wait for the burger to be made fresh and safe to say it was worth the wait. The burger was cooked to perfection, it was juicy and tender. I had the homemade lasagna and boy was it delicious with real Irish beef mince and homemade coleslaw. 10/10 highly recommend for anyone to go here if given...
