The food was great but then made average. But the service is friendly and very helpful.
After multiple visits and numerous visits the biggest problem is the food is saturated with sauce. Wifey had the duck, tender and juicy, but sadly couldn't taste it because it was saturated in a honey sauce. I had the teriyaki which again was saturated in the sauce. After five or six mouthfuls all you can taste is sweetness. You spend your time looking for a mouthful of food. This really spoils the whole dish, so many great ingredients then spoiled by a sickly sauce.
So we ordered the Rainbow Futomaki as a sharing dish, I ordered the Bento box and wifey tried the Teriyaki Soba. The sushi is ok, it is freshly made and tastes great. However for some strange reason, they drizzled mayonnaise over it. While it does add an interesting level, it is one that I would have preferred wasn't on, perhaps leave it to the side so people can make their own choice. I liked my Bento box, but again a few options that I wasn't given the choice. The sushi had two drops of mayo in them, nice, but I would have preferred it without. The Gyoza was deep fried, again nice. The rice was the rice prepared for the sushi, so it was room temp. I just wish it was steaming hot. The chicken satay, was more of a curry, but overall I liked everything, just these small points would have made it better. The Miso soup was perhaps the best I have had in a very long time. I was stuffed by the time I got to it, but wasn't going to let it waste. Delicious salty broth and highly recommended. The Teriyaki Soba was very sweet and delicious. I was very impressed with the prawns as they were cooked to perfection. Soft and fluffy with no bite in it. All in all the food here is a little on the fast food side. But it is very good and we will definitely come back to try other things on the menu. Passing plates to other tables look very tempting. The Jasmine tea was also great, a must. Sadly there were too many leaves in the pot and it didn't have an internal strainer, so a lot of the leaves landed in the cup. Here I recommend 3 teaspoons of leaves in the pot, and a strainer, or switch to a Chinese/Japanese teapot. Personally I liked the strength of the tea, but wifey said it was too strong for her. And if this doesn't get you to try, just remember they serve alcohol, a range of wines... But also some exotic sake(rice wines and spirits) and Japanese, China, and Indian beers. You are spoiled for choice here, if you want...
Read moreGood points: Nice staff, friendly and courteous. Clean inside and nicely laid out and good presentation of food. Fast service. Bad : Woefully inauthentic, unflavourful, expensive food! "Miso" ramen was more like a shio ramen, there was no miso flavour at all, the broth was watery and tasteless and the noodles were not of the type that should be in ramen. Prawn tempura don - prawns were good, but it was served on a bed of strange vegetable rice containing huge slices of courgette and carrot and raw red onion - just no. Karage was dry and tasteless and served with ketchup/mayo sauce which was extremely spicy. The miso soup was freeze dried packet stuff and it hadn't been mixed with enough water as was overpoweringly salty. The eel sushi was pretty good but overall the meal was expensive for the quality of the food. I think cutting corners on the basics of Japanese cuisine (how hard is it to make fresh miso soup and get the rice right??) will hurt this place. Might give their sushi rolls another try and I suppose it's nice to have something a bit different in town but can't recommend further than that. If you want real Japanese food you would have to go to...
Read moreWent here on Sunday evening to treat a friend of mine for help he gave me. He had lived in Korea and I had lived in Japan in the past. The food was absolutely terrible. Korean hot wings were covered in a sweet gooey sauce with little flavour other than sugar, the bokkeumbap was laughable and totally tasteless, and the lettuce provided with the sushi was wilted and stale. The rice in the sushi etc was equally terrible. Apart from the young people serving there and the availability of Japanese and Korean beers there was nothing redeeming about this restaurant. The 80 Euro spent was an abject...
