We booked The Poacher to celebrate or fiends birthday, we booked for 6pm and were told that we will need to vacate the table by 8pm which was fine. We arrived at 6.06pm and greeted by the manager we ordered our drinks and asked if we could have some bread for the table…. he replied by saying “you will get some let me do my job” I couldn’t believe what he said it was like something from Faulty Towers but I let it go and put it down to stress. We had our meal which was ok but nothing special and was served by a very friendly lady, we finished our meal before 8pm and ordered coffee’s…… instead of coffee the young lady arrived with the bill and instead of putting the bill on the table she blurted out how much we had to pay !!!! We told her that we had not had the coffee we ordered, the coffee’s arrived and before we had finished them the manager arrived saying that we had to vacate the table, I informed him that if the coffee’s had arrived on time we would have been finished by 8pm !!! He would not listen and was frustrated and rude, he then said that we could finish our coffee’s on another table but we only had 15 minutes and we were made to feel like scolded children as we followed him through the restaurant. I confronted him as we were leaving and again he was very rude, he said that we were late and that is why he moved us… we were 6 minutes late and if the coffee’ s had arrived on time we would have been finished by 8pm…. he made no apology for his comment about “let me do my job” This guy has a real attitude they are far from a Michelin Star restaurant but this guy has got his head so far up his own b/side that he has no connection with his customers. We have a home in Ballina and have been coming here for over thirty years so we spend allot of time eating out in the town and we always get great Irish Hospitality by lovely people who have also become friends over the years. This guy thinks he and his restaurant are more important than his customers. !!!! I understand that in business you sometimes have to make exceptions which is fine but this guy has no tact and no people skills at all, and must have never had heard what I told many years ago…… THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT Especially when they have paid you allot...

"Poacher" is an exceptional restaurant that exceeded my expectations. From the moment I entered, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout my dining experience, making me feel truly valued as a guest.

The menu at "Paocher" offers a diverse selection of mouthwatering dishes that showcase the chef's creativity and skill. Each plate was beautifully presented, and the flavors were simply outstanding. Whether it was the perfectly cooked steak or the delicate seafood dish, every bite was a delight to my taste buds.

What impressed me the most was the attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience. The restaurant's elegant decor, coupled with the soft background music, created a relaxing ambiance. The service was prompt and professional, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening.

I highly recommend "Pocher" to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Whether it's a special occasion or a casual night out, this restaurant will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression. I can't wait to return and indulge in their culinary...

We spent a wonderful evening at The Poacher with our two young children. The food was simply fantastic. Excellently combined, tasted and served. No unnecessary frills, but finely coordinated high quality ingredients. We had the mackerel and monkfish for appetizers and steak and venison for mains. The kids had soups and garlic bread. As a cocktail, we can highly recommend the great Old fashioned. The service was excellent and courteous. After we could not decide with the great selection, Daniel advised us perfectly. Even little things that we were asked whether the children want their food already completely to the appetizer, shows how much value is placed on the well-being of guests and also families. We can say with certainty that we have never eaten at such a high level, in such a relaxed and friendly ambience. And at such fair prices. We will definitely come back as soon as...

My first visit to the poacher, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the food was top notch, there was nothing that I was disappointed with, the main course was fabulous, very tasty and flavoursome and cooked to perfection, had a cheesecake dessert and it was like a experience you only have once in a generation, mind blown. and it was likejust a small thing the servers could have been a bit more professional when serving. But the ambiance was just right, the lighting, music, you could hear people talking, but not overly intrusive. The decor was warm and inviting. It's somewhere you just have to experience, it will stay with me for a long time, it's all good, and thanks for the memories 😊.......

Quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever had, with staff very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I started with the duck/rabbit and the balance of flavours was incredible. Every single item on the plate complimented the others - even the beetroot, which I normally can’t stand! Plate was cleared completely and then came the beef cheeks. The meat almost just melted under my knife and again was complimented by its accompaniments. Finished off with the pineapple and mango moose, which was excellent. My friend was also convinced to try the ‘natural’ Sauvignon Blanc and we’d both highly recommend that too! Can’t wait to come back - thank you for such an exceptional meal.

The food in this restaurant is of an extraordinary quality. We were suspicious that the menu was overly ambitious but as we found out - not in the slightest! Service was also superb. Tremendous value. The wine list though small is well chosen and excellent value. We had the pleasure of meeting Yvonne the head chef and she was so self effacing, relaxed and affable it was hard to believe she was at the helm of such a wonderful kitchen. This restaurant is, without question deserving of much more prestigious awards than “best in Connaught”. Rather than go through the detail of the exquisite menu come and try it for yourself! Bravo to all. Lucky Ballina, Co. Mayo.
