The Dark Horse Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in County Westmeath

This was very unpleasant night for my friend birthday.

We went in around 7pm 4 of us for few drinks and to go home. As we came in, first round cost us just bit under €50 as we had cocktails to drink. Second round was the same as we said we will try 4 different cocktails each and then go party somewhere else. On our second drink  my friend had an accident and hit his cup with hand and broke the glass. From there everything went sideways

For 1 euro Cup we felt targeted and completely unprofessional behaviour of staff members and comments we were getting for 1 Cup broken. We been refused from then getting cocktails served in cocktails cups, so we received them in pint glass. That's absolutely ridiculous, for €1 Cup that was broken.

Third round came in and as I said came in pint glass, waiter didn't took money from as and open tab for out table on their own hand. And after round 4 when we ask for just 1 more drink for me as I liked a lot my last cocktail, we get refused service until we pay our bill.

We pay first round 50 in cash, second one 50 in cash, Third and 4th round they didn't ask us for money and money was ready on the table we were sitting but they didn't take it 3rd and 4th time. And then attack us that we have to pay first to get another drinks.

Wouldn't say anything if one of the waiters knew my friend from school so we couldn't run out nowhere with free drinks. And just to say that all of us are 28 years old or plus besides that friend who was celebrating 24th birthday , so we are last people who would run as we are not kids.

And again we came at 7 and left at 9 and in them 2 hours we felt like shit. Can't get drinks in cocktails cups when you drinking cocktails, then rounds refused as tab wasn't paid that we didn't even ask for. Then 2rd round we received 2 drinks and then other 2 drinks we had to go to remind them that we didn't get our extra 2 drinks even after we already paid for them 20min ago.

And just to make aware that my wife Cup was chipped on round 2 where they told us that we done that same like we smashed first cup. Absolutely a joke of a place. And probably cuz what we understood the waiter we spoke to,was partner from the owner, so she didn't give a f. To do a customer service and make us enjoy the night after we spend more then 200 euros on 4 rounds in 2h time sitting quietly upstairs and looking pool tournament.

A joke, never would I come back again to that place.

P.s if you go there, do not damage 1 euro cup on a 11 euro cocktail as you won't get anymore cocktails in a...

More of a pub than a restaurant, which was mistake, as I interpreted a lot of the pictures as more of a restaurant vibe. More crowded and the table I was offered (wife's birthday) felt kind of crammed in at the last second. We were early, but they still seated us almost immediately, which was great. Service was passable, not particularly attentive, but also not bothersome. If you're a high maintenance diner, this isn't the place for you.

I ordered the burrito, and maybe it's just me being from North America, but I honestly haven't been this disappointed in a burrito in a while. Too much sauces, waaaaaayyy too much sauce forced into a severely under-crisped wrap. You really, and I can't stress this enough, have to crisp up your wrap after it's all assembled or it just melts and falls apart and ends up being a mess. To their credit, they offer it as a burrito bowl as well, I should have gone with that. Staff were nice enough, young lad who brought our check was affable.

All in all a nice night, other than the loud British lady who had to order her drink in paragraph format from the table next to us. Is that how us North Americans sound a...

Thank you very much for your advice and sincere wishes. They did work indeed. I did manage to figure out to change seats and surprisingly did manage to find another bar too.

Went there for a beer with my mate, bar stools were free at the counter so I sat there. Next thing I know they use the spot as the cleaning space. There were used glasses, used tissues , dishes and even cleaning paper rolls passed between myself and my mate while we had to scoot everytime they push the filth in there.

Eventually we left as we couldn’t take the discomfort, disrespect and the pungent smell anymore. Did tell the bartender on the way out that they should remove the bar stools if that’s how they intend to treat the guests there. All I got was “yeah should have told you this is our cleaning area”.

So yes, won’t go back and wont recommend anyone for a decent clean glass of whatever they like to...
