Fantastic place. Good service, good food, clean place. Top notch. Had beef cheeks and chilli beef. Very creative fusion and taste. Dessert doughnuts are on the par. Best dinner in athlone. Price worth the money and chicken, beef are halal. Amaan is an excellent chef and owner. Anyone visiting Ireland should make a point of dining here. Another user suggested this and I agree, it is one of the best restaurants in Ireland. Even their chilli beef is a different take and cut of meet... Asian, European, continental influences. Yum.

Popped in here on a whim on a Friday night, we hadn't made a reservation. We were swiftly offered a table and made to feel very welcome by the extremely professional gentleman working that night. We all ordered different food options, Fillet steak, beef cheeks, Cod. We were all incredibly impressed by the presentation of the food, and the taste was simply divine. The quality of their produce is exceptional. The service, prices, and everything about this place is a perfect 5*

This is my second time in Athlone and my second time at The Fatted Calf. It’s been an excellent experience both times. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with very attentive and friendly service. The food is amazing and creative ; last night I had a delicious steak with picco de gallo potatoes. They also have an eclectic drink menu; I enjoyed an old fashioned and an expresso martini. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look to coming back

Went for a dessert only date to celebrate a special occasion after hearing that they had really nice desserts. We had booked a table online and asked the waitress when we got there would it be ok to just order dessert.

The waitress brought over the 'head' waiter who was completely out of line! His exact words were "what do you think you're doing, we're here trying to run a restaurant before being closed again and you're taking up a table just for dessert".

I explained we just wanted dessert to celebrate a special occasion and that I am genuinely empathetic towards struggling businesses but I'm still a customer at the end of the day!

He begrudgingly asked the owner to know if it was ok which it was. He came back to our table and said 'you can have your dessert' in a belittling/condescending tone and lightly touched both me and my girlfriend on the shoulder NOT OK!

We knew asking for just dessert was probably out of the ordinary but we never expected such horrible criticism and rudeness.

It's important to mention their was a spare table for any 'higher paying' customers. Our total bill was €16 however I paid €30 in total as a token gesture for ordering just dessert.

We were going to come back for dinner some night as the food looked nice but not after being...

Dissappointed with food.....service ok.....not on my revisit list Went back to fatted Calf recently. Again I had the only fish option. I asked for a plain white sauce as I hate alioli. I asked the server to check if this was possible. If not I would review my choice. The answer was Yes a creamy sauce could be provided. Imagine my disdain when a brown sour gloop was served underneath the fish. I tried to scrape it off. Disgusting. The vegetables for two included one small potato, partially raw turnip and green leaves. Only that we ordered sides of mash and chips we would be hungry. I appreciate this establishment has a good name. Perhaps it is my lack of fine dining, but, I don't think so. The deserts were inedible, too sweet, a sickly sweet, artificial. The man that greeted us and seated us was very pleasant. I may leave it another year to return. Our bill for 1 cod and 1 chicken maincourse, a selection of icecream and chocolate fondant desert and 1 coffee, 1 coke was 80 euro. Personally, if the chef doesn't want to accommodate my request that is ok, but please don't ruin the dish by diluting...

Wandered into this gorgeous restaurant Tuesday this week. Before I even speak about the delicious food, I want to mention the service and the people. They were so attentive and professional, warm and kind. People make a place for me. Attention to detail has been lost in a lot of restaurants, but not this place! Everything on the menu was so appealing but we both ended up going for one of the specials of the day, the sirloin. The tastes, the sauces, the love put into the food was second to none! We had a pinot grigio and Argentinan Malbec to accompany them. My malbec was full bodied and bold, it went perfectly with my meat. We then had espresso martinis instead of desserts- again delicious! It was my mums first espresso martini and it didnt disappoint. My mother mentioned we were out celebrating and they brought down a complimentary dessert with Congratulations written on it- so kind and lovely. We were very impressed and will be...
