I've stayed in Dingle multiple times and never had a bad experience. From staying in Benners Hotel or Skelligs Hotel or several Air B'n'B private accommodation, all my previous experiences were great. I chose to stay in James G. Ashe's Bed and Breakfast just to try a different place but I truly regret this. First of all , its not a Bed and Breakfast as they do not serve breakfast even though they have a bar and restaurant downstairs.||The ensuite room was clean but this is the only positive. On my first night I struggled to fall asleep due to noise on the street, but was prepared to wait till it subdued. However a loud buzzing noise kept me awake. I realised it was the cooler box in the room and unplugged it. Noise went away, only to be replaced by another buzzing humming noise which was relentless thru the night ( boiler room? Central heating? Kitchen fridges below? I do not know) Eventually I fell asleep at around 7 am only to be woken again by loud voices right outside my room at 8.30 am. The following night I purchased ear plugs and being exhausted from lack of sleep the previous night was looking forward to a blissful night of deep sleep. HOWEVER, even with ear plugs the buzzing and humming was loud enough to keep me awake till 4.30 am, finally fell asleep due to exhaustion , only to be woken up again at 7.30 by activity in the building. But the most disappointing thing apart from not being able to sleep was the unwelcoming feeling I felt from the owner..in my experience Dingle is very welcoming and so are its people, but in this instance the owner couldn't care less, and when she met me, after being checked in by another staff member, she could barely muster a hello..if so jaded by visitors, then stop offering accommodation .. I tried to speak to her about the room, but she swiftly moved away and cut me short. Also I wonder does the accommodation upstairs have a fire cert, it can be seen from the pictures too that the landing outside the rooms is pretty chaotic .....
Read moreWe arrived in Dingle on the late side, as the sun was setting and creating a brilliant sky, finally walking toward the center of town and looking for something to eat close to 9 - getting late for food, we thought. The pub/restaurant was still open, so we each had a Guinness sitting at the bar and waited for a table to open up in this cozy restaurant at street level that extends back to a cozy small room with a fireplace and stairs that lead up to the kitchen. The food is more than you would expect, with a fine touch to some of the dishes that made them something special - in other words, much more than a fish and chips restaurant. The menu contains interesting and creative variations on fish and other seafood, leaning toward healthy choices created with a flair. ||Waitstaff was excellent and allowed us to eat our meal without feeling rushed. We were very relaxed. We asked our waitress about one of the old photos hanging above the fireplace that showed a large family standing together in front of a building. She didn't know the story about the photo, but came back a short time later after speaking to the owner, who was also in the photo as a very young child. It was the family that started the B & B and pub. The owner was also there that night, and we had a pleasant conversation with him as well. We didn't stay at the B & B since we'd already made reservations at another one that I'll mention in another post. However, if you're looking for a good restaurant, I can recommend this one...
Read moreExcellent food. Friendly staff. We drop by for dinner with some friends after the 23K hike from Anascul. Our friends have made reservations for two but they were very polite and miraculously made a table for four. Friends had the dingle Jen and tonic. We found it odd that they offered a margarita with very good ingredients so we ordered it. it was a fantastic margarita. it’s not what you come to Ireland for but after about the hundredth Guinness I was ready for something else. I had the appetizers of : Blue cheese and poached pear salad- it was actually quite light on the amount of salad but the dish overall was fantastic. Delicious blue cheese that was closer to a blue Gorgonzola one of my favorites. we had the local scallops appetizer and it was cooked to perfection. Slightly brown on the edges. My husband ordered the seafood chowder and as this is the third or fourth bowl we’ve had at different restaurants we can fairly confidently say it’s one of the best we’ve had. If you’re looking for great seafood chowder you should try this one. Other winners were: mushroom risotto, mussels cooked Thai style, and the sticky toffee pudding is not...
