Exceptionally loud and busy when we popped in for take away coffees for the first visit. Barista was drowning in orders and we waited almost 20 minutes for an Americano and a mocha.
Came back later as the food appeared good. By the time the queue out the door had lessened and we were seated we missed the breakfast menu so opted for lunch. The durty burd chicken burger itself was ginormous! But the bap was far too big and had to be discarded to allow one to enjoy the flavour and level of cooking of the chicken fillet (which was perfect!). Fries that came with it were sans flavour bar a heavy dose of grease which was off putting and affected the appetites of all in the group who ventured.
The service was rushed and chaotic but likely that is down to the fact it was midterm break and the staff were up to teeth with families. However regardless of level of busy-ness a few noticeable oversights can be easily rectified.
The baby chairs should not be placed in the same spot as the take away coffee counter- ourselves and other customers had to repeatedly move out of way of staff who were grabbing dirty baby seats from near the front and the front left window shouldn't be used as a customer table if surrounding area is for all surplus baby seats. Staff moved customers from their bar stool tables to get access to the seats and then again other customers had to move outside to make way for a brunch order for the window high bar table of two. These are unnecessary inconveniences if the floor lay out was better thought out and the oversight of having 1 barista attempt to fulfil so many on site and take away coffees was avoidable.
Food is good but given the level of noise of the cafe I wouldn't recommend dine in. Coffee was very very good but not worth a near 20 minute wait for take away orders. Likely caught them on a bad day re the coffee take away order given kids were off that week but the managers should plan ahead better and also be cognizant of the customers. Lots of headless chicken vibes from staff and seemed very conveyer belt on how they treated dine in customers. Again food was decent but service and floor lay out could both do with major review and...
Read moreIt’s so so sad to see a good eatery go down hill.we were use to a warm greeting but instead we were sat beside the door with it open and it was sooooo cold.
The place was not even busy and we had to ask could we get a menu instead of been brought one to are table like in the passed.
After a long wait for a food it finally arrived and we were not impressed.the plates were ice cold 😞.but the worse thing was there was whole grain mustard in the hollandaise sauce.and for some strange reason there was a garnish of Pickled red cabbage and raw scallions.witch has no place on an egg royal.
The waiter was really pleasant when I asked could the plate be heated up and the garnish taken off. Yes So the food arrived the second time with the plates heated and the strange garnish removed.but sadly the hollandaise sauce still had whole grain mustard in it and sadly the poached eggs were absolutely destroyed for some reason.
We felt the standard has really slipped and the food is not as good as it used to be.
In fairness they comped the breakfast but please please try get back to the Previous standard because we really miss the way...
Read moreWe have eaten at the Hungry Bear 7 or 8 times now. The food has never disappointed us with our many choices getting through the menu. We meet family for lunch the 1st time and it was very big. Breakfast/brunch is our favourite time to go though.
The Hungry Bear breakfast is lovely. Very substantial and full of flavour. The wife has gone for the vegan pancakes which were lovely/eggs Benny/ eggs Florintine again full of flavour and really flavourful. The biggest surprise was the buttermilk chicken with a Korean sauce. This was a revelation. So many contrasting flavours which was a lovely surprise.
Reasonably priced for what you get. The menu has loads of selection to satisfy most people. The restaurant is not local but we like it so much we drive and hour round trip to enjoy it! By the time 10am comes around there is a large queue waiting to get breakfast!
Highly recommended and looking forward to going back...
