Canton Regent — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Tullamore

To say this place is bad is an injustice to the word. My girlfriend and I decided to have a meal out rather than just get a takeaway or cook so we decided on the Canton. Big mistake in hindsight. The waiter who served us was rather rude and uncordial to us I almost thought my girlfriend and I had done something to upset him. He sat us near the fish tank and walked off leaving us with only the specials menu and didn't return for another 10 minutes. When he finally did return we had to ask for the proper menu and he looked very much irritated that we asked and when handed the menus he disappeared for at least another 5-10 minutes before finally deciding​ to take the drinks order, when the food did arrive (props to the chef's for quick service) it was well below par to what I would akin to good restaurant food, just ordered basic chow mein, vegetable fried rice amd salt and chilli chips and I've never been more disappointed, chips were lacking in flavour as was the rice but the chow mein was good enough, it wasn't good enough to make up for bad service and the other bad food though. I heard good things about this restaurant and I was sorely disappointed. Overall it would be better if the staff were less rude and a little more customer considerate, they should also be aware that there are people that can speak Chinese so they should be careful to not talk about them behind their backs in a language they think they do...

Group of 6 on 8th February 2025. Thick soup was definitely thick and so was I, the more the evening went on. One of the starters of spring rolls were still frozen in the centre. Now you know it's never made on site just bought in Frozen. I ordered Fillet steak and it smelled Ok. That's where it ended. Some of the thin strips of steak were still attached to a rubbery skin like layer and un-chewable. The whole plate of food was adhered to the plate in what looked like Cloudy congealed egg white. Probably some sort of MSG. They certainly didn't sprinkle it on. It appeared as if the pack had fallen in. My dish wasn't the only disaster and when we were asked at the end if everything was Ok., I said no and told the waiter it was the worst I'd ever eaten. I didn't cause a scene as I was in company but I can safely say you are taking a MASSIVE risk if you go here. The only reason I gave 1 star was so I could leave a review.. Oh and the one bottled beer I had, was good. In my honest opinion, this has to have been the worst Chinese restaurant experience I've ever had and I'm no teenager. I had my daughter's 18th birthday in the canton, and I must say they staff that were there that evening had no manner and a very bad attitude towards people. There was no please or thank you given to us, one particular staff was ask to get something 3 times and never did. There was nothing complementary given at the end of the meal nor durring it either. All 17 people in my daughter's company were disgusted with the treatment. When we were all going to pay for our meal at the end, the staff behind the counter never said thank you hope you enjoyed yourself and your meal nothing... he didn't even make I contact with people that were paying.
