After a busy week myself and a few friends decided to relax with some wine and try out The Garrison for some tapas. What a mistake that was!
After hearing pleasant things, we booked a table, last minute which we were grateful for but now understand why they were so quiet on a Saturday night.
Service was slow and poor. The young lads didn't have any sort of management around to instruct them. The guy serving did explain he's very new, so we first put it down to that. But when he didn't even check all was ok once our food arrived, we realised there wasn't a manager in sight just a bunch of young adults winging it.
The food, if I can call it that? The garlic and chilli prawns... no chilli and no garlic just a bland cream with RAW prawns. The chicken wings were a microwave dinner. The sardines were miniscule and dry. The chicken tasted of fish. The wedges were raw. But the garlic bread was delicious.
I would never ever eat at this establishment again. I would however get a bottle of wine and sit on their phenomenal...
Read moreNice looking place that we spotted on our first trip to Castletown. We popped in for lunch and thought the atmosphere was nice, but the staff were very unfriendly and the one taking our order at all the table started to walk away before all three of us had placed our order.
Drinks arrived after about 20 minutes (tea and coffee) but only for two of us and we had to ask for the other tea. The drinks were nice though - good quality coffee and nice large mugs of mint tea.
Our food hadn't arrived after over an hour so we went to the bar to ask and a minute later,, the steak pie and chips arrived - looking nice but was actually cold. The chips were very nice so that was a shame.
The sandwich took a while longer and arrived with the toast we had ordered, which was also cold.
So probably a nice place for a drink, but we will find somewhere else for lunch next time.

Read moreAte twice this week at this lovely little restaurant and both meals were well prepared and served by brilliant cheerful staff. Both times we arrived early without reservations and despite a full cover list for the evening were accommodated by the excellent front of house waitress. She was friendly and knowledgeable and clearly understood her table requirements for the evening, squeezing in walk ins and maximising profit for the boss! All the food was excellent, the Queenie's were the best I'd had all week, the lasagne is unctuous and delicious, the schnitzel generous and perfectly juicy. The risotto was creamy and fresh and for pud, the white chocolate tart tasted like a great creme brulee. All in all, much better than the current Google score would suggest and very likely to be difficult to get a table as their reputation grows after a refurbishment and...
