Frank Matcham’s — Restaurant in Douglas

Booked this to celebrate my birthday on Sat 11th 8:30pm - was asked to wait 15mins past my booking slot which was fine, until the server snarkily told us we had arrived late (I arrived exactly on time, other members of the party were looking for parking). This same server (an Asian lady working that night, did not get her name) then continued to be rude to us throughout, as if she didn’t want us to be there. We’d also asked her for tap water at the start and then again at the end and it wasn’t until we literally stood up to leave after paying (2hrs after we had initially asked) that water was served. This other server seemed really confused. Food was expensive and only OK. Music was very confusing, ranging from house, rap, to live music. What an absolute bleeding disgrace the manager is.

The food portions are small, high priced but very good. Consequently, clients who go to Frank Matcham's go for a sophisticated experience with people who are special to them.

So, for the love of God, why does the manager think that hiring a completely rubbish singer is acceptable?

Honestly, this singer was so rubbish and SO LOUD, that he gave me a migraine and I was forced to abandon my meal half eaten.

To my fellow diners - do yourself a favour and give this place a wide berth until they give this singer the boot. He belongs in a loud, drunken bar, not anywhere with even a hint of class.

Food and drinks are amazing, however I must give special praise to Tom Holland who really helped us with a unique issue. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner last night. However, we realized we accidentally left a treasured mascot (“Smokey” - a small stuffed bear) on the seat of our booth. The problem is that we live in San Francisco and are currently in London and flying home in a couple of days. I just called the restaurant and spoke directly with Tom. My wife and I were thrilled he was able to find this treasured keepsake of ours! Tom assured he would personally make arrangements to mail Smokey all the way back to our home in San Francisco.
