The bar review - it was a Tue night we visited so it was quiet. Had a decent amount of drinks options but only had Madri which was £6. They do have love bands and djs at weekends. Not a huge place but had an ok amount of tables. They do let folk vape tho so if you don't wanna smell an assorted of ridiculous smells, avoid. (And if you don't let them.....there was a couple people vaping at the bar Infront of the staff who were talking to them with no care in the world they vape)
The smokehouse - which is a restaurant upstairs (nobody board there) got a table on the Thu for 2. Doesn't have a smoke house look except from the wooden tables and the fires on the TVs. Food - Cheese and garlic bread with dip- small rounded garlic bread pizza style, decent amount of cheese but they claim it's homemade, it tastes more like store bought (they might freeze it but it never tasted fresh £6 Onion bites - massive portion with dip and small side salad. Chopped up onion bits battered and fried. £7.5 recommend. Chicken burger - again, massive portion. Large chicken piece. Huge amount of chips - which strangely tasted like chippy chips but skinnier. My wife said it was really nice £19.50 Sirloin steak 6oz with chips (again the chippy style chips and huge portions) some side salad and peppercorn sauce - wasn't the warmest sauce. Thick and had peppercorn in it and it was nice. Steak medium, it did have some bits that was grey throughout and other bits that were pink but it was really easy to cut into and tasted nice. £21 steak £3.95 sauce.
Servers. Some of them were good but none of them went out their way to ensure a great experience. They were obsessed with checking bottles/cans. Saw a server walk up to the table next to me, picked up his bottle to check and poured it out for him without asking, which I would consider a little rude.
Overall it was a decent experience. Nothing I would...
Read moreStopped in for dinner on our last night on IOM. Fiance had been in about 4 years ago, and remembered the food being really good. They've updated the menu completely since then, and the food is seriously lacking. We had the "14 hour smoked brisket nachos" and a ribeye with 2 side salads. The "brisket" is more like pot roast, the cheese was good but not correct for nachos, and they drowned it in jalapeno peppers I guess for flavour. The steak was cooked to temperature ordered (medium rare), but had no seasoning. The waitress was friendly and the meal came out relatively fast, but she left the bill at the table and didn't come back for a bit so we weren't clear on how to pay and close out. Went to the bar, and my fiance spoke with the bartender about the food. We are from Texas (fiance's family have been Manx residents for multiple generations), and he explained how the dishes on the menu aren't really as American passing as they're trying. The bartender claimed that they can't season the food past salt and pepper because of food allergies... What? We were kind of thinking the chef would come out and talk to us, but did not. On our reservation it asked specifically for any special requests or information like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. we put that we were celebrating our engagement to be married. Not that we expected anything extraordinary, but there was zero acknowledgement from any of the staff. This place has the potential to really knock it out of the park with an American menu, but they sorely missed the mark. We are planning to have our wedding with a sizable guest list. Jak's would have been a perfect spot for a rehearsal dinner, but we will look elsewhere. The window view is pretty great, but overall we'd rate our...
Read moreThe bar is great and so are the staff. Finished our 3 day break off with a t-bone steak meal. I am old and I can honestly say this is the worst steak I have had in my life. I ordered 2 t-bones one for my wife and one for me both medium one with fries one with the beans and sauce. Started eating it and got a big hair in my mouth, I would not have bothered but my wife complained. A guy came I said it 's fine but he insisted on changing the meal. By the time the replacement came my wife had finished her meal , she can eat fat I can put up with a bit.The cut of meat was horrible it was full of fat, I expect a bit on the sirloin side but even the fillet was fatty, stringy fat everywhere and that was a first for me. I paid £80 for the meal and 2 pints, I paid but complained to the manager who swapped my meal and he said he came to me and asked if every thing was fine 10 minutes after he had swapped the meal , it was more like 30 seconds and said that I agreed it was fine, I did at around 30 seconds. My wife's side dish of chips were soggy, and the beans I ordered were no better than tinned beans. The most expensive meal I have ever paid for and...
