Mrs Yang's — Restaurant in Douglas

40th birthday dinner ruined. Avoid this restaurant! We booked a hotpot 2 weeks ago and some food items a day before. I confirmed by phone with the manager about the menu and he said a room will be available and everything will be ready and we can order different meats on the day. Came there at 7:30 pm with no room, no hotpot and drinks took 20 mins. Appetisers took 40 mins and we didn’t start eating mains until 9 ish even if we have preordered the food and only 3 tables are filled. There were missing items like chips and rice and we decided to ask for the bill as half of the party has already left. They charged us for the missing items and doubled some items on the drinks. Upon seeing this, we asked for a discount and an explanation why it has been so slow even if we have preordered the meal. The owners came and verbally assaulted us. Police was called and they blocked off the door. The lady owner was really aggressive and did not care if their child was watching and my baby was crying from all the shouting. This would have easily been a 4 or 5 star for me, the food was great and had the flavours I expected, the ambience was also amazing (it was on the 14th of December2023 so it was all christmassy). However, our waiter attempted to be sneaky; he gave us an inflated bill😵‍💫😫 my colleague that I went with immediately divided it in two and was ready to pay. I took the bill and audited it and was shocked to see we were about to pay for items we didn't order (we were about to pay more than twice of our original bill). My colleague could not believe she was even ready to pay. When the man came back, he flipped out the POS machine like he didn't know what he had done. I told him to give us the correct bill and then we will pay. His body language gave him away, I could tell that wasn't his first rodeo. We visited here as a family for a special celebration. We booked ahead but there were still empty tables when we left. The decor inside is amazing; I wish I had remembered to take some photos! We shared a mixed starter between 5 people and they were kind enough to keep the nut related items separated as one of our party has a nut allergy. The food itself was delicious. I had duck with pancakes as my main and it was a generous portion. The service was very efficient and friendly. There are a lot of steps into the building and within the restaurant so it would not be suitable for wheelchair users. Those with limited mobility would also find it hard to navigate to use...
