Shanaru sushi — Restaurant in Abano Terme

I visit Shanaru Sushi once a month or more. My Japanese & Chinese are limited, but my guess is 'shanaru' translates as something like 'to shout' - curiously there's another sushi spot in Abano Terme called 'Speak Easye'. Shanaru has a respectable rating, despite some harsh reviews. Their table service USED TO BE lacking more than 18 months; but, since 2021, they seem to be paying attention to reviews & are rapidly improving. On our latest visits, the change is noticable. They sincerely ask if guests are OK with where they are being seated, apologize if there happens to be unexpected noises, make efforts to space tables ... they are successfully trying harder. They return often to clear away dirty tableware. They are investing in their interior & repairs, which is perhaps wise. It's outside the more popular tourist areas. Parking is good, but not just in front. Their bathroom has a single stall - no baby changing area or handicap accessories - and is kept relatively clean. The restaurant is definitely not wheelchair accessible, at least easily - except perhaps for eating at the front patio - which is a bad idea as there is too much start-stop traffic & horrid cigarette smokers closeby. It is close to the local bus stops. They have an above average to very good sushi chef(s). They along with the other food prep staff are why you go to Shanaru! They prepare standard Asian dishes typically found in Italy at a very high level of competence - especially relative to price. Their ingredients are always fresh enough, their presentation clean and precise, portions are average. In today's economy, no one should be complaining about the prices at Shanaru. The flatware & cutlery are always clean. I know I couldn't keep a similar restaurant open at double their prices. Their 'all you can eat' lunches & suppers are competitively priced. As some others noted, their udon is quite good as well as their tempura dishes. I can't say it's 'gourmet' level cooking, but again, you're not paying 'gourmet' prices. The ambience is a little claustrophobic when it's busy & service does slow down at those times - AS IT WOULD IN ALL RESTAURANTS. In late 2022 and the start of 2023, the food flavours have become even better! Also, in 2023, the dishes arrive at least twice as fast as they used to. All told, I think service matches similar sized places. There are about 25 to 35 tables for two, four or six people. There is nothing unique or innovative about Shanaru's menu. They don't have 'signature' dishes. They are consistent, trying very hard to listen & improve, quick to respond to questions & problems. There are limited windows - except for a few tables on the second level - so, the time of day is irrelevant. Noise is low & it is possible to converse as there is no loud music playing — although they do have music playing. I could agree with some earlier negative reviews - BUT - in the past year, even weeks, I see a huge improvement toward customer service. It is best for tables of four adults or less, who want to chat. Best for sushi fans & cold weather dining. They have at least one highchair. Some 'nutritional' information on the menus. The all-you-can-eat menu is competitively priced. Drinks and desserts are extra to the base all-you-can-eat prices. Ordering a la carte can also be very inexpensive for a light lunch. You don't have to wait for a check, you just note your table number and tell the cashier when you pay. I believe they accept most major credit cards. Shanaru offers pleasant, quality westernized 'Asian' dining. I find my experience improves...

Ubicato vicino al comune di Abano questo locale ha risposto alle mie aspettative, alimentate anche da una cara amica che ci viene spesso. Siamo stati sabato, il locale non era pieno ma nel giro di mezz'ora era tutto riempito. Il locale si sviluppa in lunghezza con alcuni slarghi per piccoli gruppi sia al piano terra che al primo piano dove ci siamo accomodati. Il menù è praticamente nuovo, la lista da cui scegliere molto ampia, comunque presenti sia preparazioni giapponesi che cinesi. Il primo round degli ordini è stato abbastanza veloce, tenete presente che nell'ordine complessivo vengono serviti per prima i piatti caldi, pertanto se avete ordinato quelli freddi tipo sushi dovrete necessariamente aspettare. Dopo questo primo giro iniziale un buco nel servizio, i tempi quindi si sono dilatati a dismisura col secondo ordine parziale e anche per ordinare il sorbetto finale altra lunga attesa. Il giudizio comunque direi buono, piatti ben fatti soprattutto gli udon e gli spaghetti, notevoli pure le tempure croccanti e leggere. Buono anche tutto il settore freddo del sushi, il gusto è comunque standard e dolciastro, una marcia in più sarebbe auspicabile con la presenza di altre salse oltre a quella onnipresente di soia. Vino sfuso più che discreto, servizio con qualche incertezza nei piatti e un po' a rilento dopo il primo ordine, prezzo buono per la formula all you can eat, personale comunque socievole e ben disposto. Una buona serata, con cibo di buon livello, consiglio comunque la prenotazione nei fine settimana ; infine ottimo il parcheggio il Piazza Mercato, a pochi minuti da...

Sconsiglio assolutamente questo locale! Dopo un’ora di attesa, a me e al mio compagno, ci arrivano solo 3 piatti ordinati. Notiamo ovviamente, che il servizio è molto lento, ma che c’è un problema con la parte cruda del menu. Che non arriva mai, e che fatalità abbiamo ordinato per prima. L’attesa è presente anche negli altri tavoli, e noto lo stesso fastidio che ho provato io. Le ragazze cordiali ma non basta questo. Dopo quest’ora di attesa ci alziamo e facciamo notare il tutto al titolare, che poteva avvisarci del problema facendoci ordinare prima la parte cotta (se a qualcosa serviva), e che l’attesa elevata si può accettare, con locale pieno e non con soli 6 tavoli occupati. Mi sono opposta nel pagare l’intera cifra della cena, ma comunque 40€ per quello che ci è stato servito, sono stati comunque buttati. Il servizio all you can eat dei ristoranti giapponesi, è fatto apposta per essere un servizio veloce. Ma se con soli 6 tavoli, non si riesce a lavorare bene, bisogna farsi qualche domanda.
