Really wonderful staff and owner (Franco). I was staying nearby and just wanted good food at reasonable prices. Takeout with Italian food is tricky but everything I had was tasty. Their pizzas were really good. Franco says they technically aren't Neopolitan pies, but they tasted like them. The eggplant parmigiana is very good. I also had a couple of pasta dishes. I ate here two times so that should say something. I highly recommend this place especially if you want to avoid a tourist trap. It's thoughtful, traditional Italian food, and affordable for the area.
I think the context to this is key to any review: True Sardinian food is not what you typically get in Porto Cervo for the most part. All these seafood recipes you are getting could come from other places in Italy. Just because you shave some bottarga on something, doesn't make it Sardinian for me. The best Sardinian food actually comes from the interior of the island like suckling pig, or a lamb pasta, or their version of a lasagna made with bread. I tried many restaurants and the food in Porto Cervo area is hit or miss. If you speak to the chefs, they all admit this.
My impression is that what Franco serves here is more driven by recipes from Amalfi and Naples. I very much respect the food from that area, so I like the change of pace. He's being true to his roots and regional culture and I think that comes through. It's different at CornoRosso but I think that's a good thing.
Lastly, if you've been to Venice, you know it's full of tourist places. One of the best meals I've had in Italy is in Venice but I've had many sub par meals too. This is the same with Porto Cervo and I say this not to offend the locals b/c there is good cooking on the island. You just have to be careful where you go. The best views does not equal great food. I think you have to ask yourself whether you want good food or a good experience or views. If you get both, I'm sure you're going to pay for it around Porto Cervo.
P.S. I am a home cook and I've been to Italy I...
Read moreMy husband and I visited this restaurant on a Friday evening, a day when I don’t eat meat, which can sometimes leave me feeling a little limited in my choices. However, on this occasion, I was absolutely delighted with my meal.
I went for the chef’s special, fagottini with lobster and blue cheese, and it was outstanding: rich, full of flavour, and beautifully balanced. For dessert, I had la ciadla croccante with peach and ice cream, which has now become one of my favourite desserts of all time. The wine was excellent too.
Service was quick but not rushed, and the staff were friendly, accommodating, and genuinely kind. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pizza and calzone, which was described as small but turned out to be huge, a lovely surprise that meant I could “help” him finish it.
All in all, a wonderful experience from start to finish. We’ll definitely...
Read moreAn absolute delight! For an area with so many restaurants cater to tourists, this restaurant had a genuinely hospitable environment and staff. They looked after us very well.
Their Aglio, Olio e Peperoncino was one of the best I've ever had. A simple dish, cooked extremely well and is a good yardstick to measure everything else by. My wife had the sesame crusted Tuna Tartare which was also scrumptious! Definitely try the Caprese Solita- the bread that it comes with is absolutely exquisite! Finish with their traditional Sardinian digestif, Mirto.
Thank you Corno Rosso team for going above and beyond. I wish I remembered the names of the staff and if we were in Sardinia for longer, we would definitely have come back...
