Cala Beach Club — Restaurant in Ameglia

Big disappointment - bad and expensive food In August 2022, we visited the restaurant at 7:30 p.m. without a reservation on our holidy in Italy. The restaurant has beuatiful terrace which was completely empty. After much thought, the English-speaking waiter graciously offered us a free table, saying that we had to vacate it by 9:00 p. m., which was not a problem for us. We had to place our food order with a waitress who only spoke Italian (the English-speaking waiter apparently didn't have time for us preparing tables). It didn't matter, we were prepared for this situation and we knew the basic Italian words from the menu. I ordered seafood with spaghetti and 3x costata di marzo (pork cutlet ?) for 50 EUR/kg. I wasn't sure what kind of meat it was, but the waitress assured me it wasn't fish and it was meat (carne). I wrote down the weights of 200g, 100g and 100g in my little daughter's diary for the waitress to avoid misunderstanding, I assumed it was some kind of steak and I didn't want to order unnecessarily large portions that the children wouldn't eat anyway. The waitress checked the weights of the meat portions, wrote everything down, we also ordered potatoes, a bottle of water and a glass of wine. To our dismay, however, they brought us 3 times the same portion of meat with the bones overgrown with fat, tough and oversalted, one portion of meat cost EUR 40 with potatoes, the weight of each portion must have been around 700 g. I'm sorry that the waitress didn't warn us or send an English-speaking colleague to explain to us that it is not a steak and that one portion will not cost us about 10-20 EUR, but 40 EUR. Unfortunately, the second dish was also oversalted. When it came to paying, another English speaking waiter was dispatched. We paid €155 for an inedible meal. Before 9 p.m., only 4 tables from the entire terrace were occupied, so we don't understand how all the tables could...

Mercoledì 21 io e mia moglie abbiamo cenato al Cala Beach Club. Al nostro arrivo rimaniamo subito incantati dal bellissimo locale con terrazza sul mare e dalla gradevole accoglienza. Ordiniamo un tagliolino all'astice, uno spaghetto del golfo, 2 infornate di pesce e 1 bottiglia di vermentino. Mi permetto di chiedere il vino bello fresco e un secchiello con ghiaccio per mantenerlo (odio il bianco caldo). Cosa ci portano? Un secchiello con dentro acqua a temperatura ambiente senza ghiaccio, la scusa è stata si è rotta la macchina del ghiaccio e poi vedo passare ghiaccio in quantità per la serata di beneficenza che si stava svolgendo nel locale. Mi sono sentito preso in giro anche se poi ,una volta fatto notare, il ghiaccio è magicamente comparso. Per quanto riguarda le portate le ho trovate nella norma, mi è mancato l'effetto wow che ti aspetti da un locale di questo livello. La ciliegina sulla torta? Il cameriere che in modo velato, diretto, simpatico e meno simpatico chiede la mancia a tutti i tavoli!!!! Questo proprio non me lo aspetto!! Ho pagato e sono andato via...

Mai più! Fermati per un caffè a fine Maggio, chiedo un caffè ed un orzo, vengono appoggiati in un vassoio sul bancone del bar, io mi alzo dalla sedia e me li prendo, quindi no servizio al tavolo. Al momento di pagare il conto mi accorgo che mi hanno fatto pagare il caffè € 2.50, chiedo spiegazioni e loro mi dicono che il caffè al tavolo costa così. Da 1,20€ a 2,50. Come il caffè che io mi sono andata a prendere al bancone del bar pagato come un caffè servito al tavolo? Questo vuol dire voler fregare chi non è del posto, perché c'era altra gente che stava consumando il caffè al tavolo ma non credo che glielo avessero fatto pagare così.
