A wonderful experience with fantastic food. The staff is extremely welcoming and kind, the food was amazingly good and the restaurant is beautiful and clean. We had a meadi plate of enjera with zighni, kilwa, kitfo with some tamia and sambussa, plus some hummus and pepper sauces for dinner with sweet spice tea to finish. So much wonderful and spicy (by choice) food that we almost couldn't finish. The staff conversed with us perfectly in 3 languages and made us feel so welcomed. I love this place and can't wait to go back again and again.

Il miglior ristorante africano di Bergamo. Qui non si va semplicemente per mangiare, ma per fare un'esperienza a tutto tondo, a partire dall'arredamento curato nei dettagli. I proprietari sono una famiglia eritrea che ha portato in Italia la propria cucina e le proprie tradizioni. Il loro pane si chiama "enjera", ha una preparazione particolare ed è senza glutine, quindi adatto anche ai celiaci. Viene servito sotto le pietanze e, nella cultura eritrea, è l'equivalente delle posate perché serve a raccogliere il cibo che si porta alla bocca. Qui si prova il gusto di mangiare con le mani ma, per chi non se la sente, i tavoli sono apparecchiati sempre con forchetta e coltello. La cuoca è l'ottima Haimanot, la proprietaria stessa, che fa arrivare le spezie direttamente dal suo paese. Non perdetevi il suo the speziato (senza teina) che con il suo profumo e il suo mix di ingredienti vi conquisterà. Merita una menzione Adal, il figlio dei proprietari, di una gentilezza e cortesia squisite, che ha avuto anche la cura di aggiungere spontaneamente una sedia per farci appoggiare le borse, fa di tutto per consigliarvi al meglio, lasciandovi il vostro tempo per decidere, bravissimo!!

Lunch today was the third - perhaps fourth - time that I have eaten at Dahlak over the past 12 years or so. I live in a different city and it takes me about an hour to reach the restaurant in Bergamo: if they were in my city I would eat there monthly! The welcome and service are warm and friendly. The vegetarian food options are several but I usually get the vegetarian combination platter that includes a sample of each of the vegetarian dishes. The waiter (the son of the couple who started the restaurant and who still cook there) speaks excellent English as well, obviously, as fluent Italian. The menu is available in both languages. Bergamo is very lucky to have such an interesting and excellent - and well-priced...

Today, I was cycling past this place on my way to the Cita Alta and I noticed that this is a restaurant from my country. My heart naturally gravitated towards it because I have not had our traditional cuisine in a while, and the moment I stepped in, they made me feel immensely welcome. I ordered Timtimo vegetarian dish which had two different sauces and a salad on the side and it was as authentic as my grandmother’s home made food. It truly brought back fond memories of my childhood and I was really moved by their gracious hospitality and kindness. I was in a hurry, and I couldn’t stay for too long, but I wish I would’ve spent more time there . It truly is a unique place! I will come back...

This was a fantastic experience from top to bottom; the staff were welcoming and friendly, explained every aspect of the menu and recommended a less spicy dish for one person in our party.

The food itself was amazing, the sambussa was delicious and the perfect starter. The sharing platter allows you to try the meat stews, curried lentils and chickpeas, plus the unique enjera bread it was served on.

Moist and tasty cakes for dessert with a homemade blend of tea, what more do you want!

I would recommend this to anyone looking for something different to the classic Italian meal and will...
