Lunch today was the third - perhaps fourth - time that I have eaten at Dahlak over the past 12 years or so. I live in a different city and it takes me about an hour to reach the restaurant in Bergamo: if they were in my city I would eat there monthly! The welcome and service are warm and friendly. The vegetarian food options are several but I usually get the vegetarian combination platter that includes a sample of each of the vegetarian dishes. The waiter (the son of the couple who started the restaurant and who still cook there) speaks excellent English as well, obviously, as fluent Italian. The menu is available in both languages. Read moreToday, I was cycling past this place on my way to the Cita Alta and I noticed that this is a restaurant from my country. My heart naturally gravitated towards it because I have not had our traditional cuisine in a while, and the moment I stepped in, they made me feel immensely welcome. I ordered Timtimo vegetarian dish which had two different sauces and a salad on the side and it was as authentic as my grandmother’s home made food. It truly brought back fond memories of my childhood and I was really moved by their gracious hospitality and kindness. The food itself was amazing, the sambussa was delicious and the perfect starter. The sharing platter allows you to try the meat stews, curried lentils and chickpeas, plus the unique enjera bread it was served on.
Moist and tasty cakes for dessert with a homemade blend of tea, what more do you want!
