Absolutely stunned - in a negative way. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and have them explain what happened yesterday here on this platform, but the way we were treated yesterday was unacceptable. Especially since the restaurant is located on top of a hotel and their business should be open to every culture. I was looking for a restaurant on short notice yesterday and saw the good reviews for this restaurant. So my boyfriend and I went yesterday. When entering the elevator, we saw a sign that read they only do reservations, so we already knew they might not let us in. But I thought, since we already made the way up, we might as well just ask and maybe they can get us a table for two. As my Italian is pretty bad, so I was asking in English if there is a possibility to get us a table for two. Mind you, it was 08.30 p.m. and there were still plenty of free tables. I am sure they also had some reservations, but I doubt it was fully booked. The man at the front then asked if we could speak Italian. I said "only a bit". He then looked over to his other colleagues who were looking us up and down and he asked again: "Do you speak Italian?" I then said "No, not really" which made him decline our request and said he could not get us a table then. I was so shocked, I wasn't even able to reply properly. I mean, if the reason was that they were fully booked or we weren't dressed properly, I would have been totally fine and maybe that was the reason all along, but I wonder what made them think that giving us that kind of explanation is a good reason. Until they explain that situation here, we can only assume that foreigners are not welcomed and it tainted our whole trip to Italy...
Read more“beautifully average fancy place” The location is pretty! :) We tried 2 of their tasting menus. Service is nice (nothing unexpected at this price point) , food was OK (but not outstanding), quite heavy and big portions (answer yourself if that’s good or bad). What I didn’t like (also probably what makes this place average in my eyes ) are those -hotel vibes-. The whole concept just wasn’t fresh enough ( talking about tastes and ideas ). I had a feeling that I already tried everything before, what again is not a bad thing but you’re visiting places like this to experience something new. I was also missing some little, personal touches to remember. (Surprise course, small talk with the service or explanation of what we’re actually tasting ) That kind of “love energy” we all love about Italian gastronomy.. and I think should be a must at such a place. Overall it wasn’t bad. We had a nice time in “roof garden” but I would...
Read moreWe were a little hesitant at first because it felt initially like one of those attitude-first restaurants that you occasionally walk into. (I was in t-shirt and shorts as we were walking a lot.) We were pleasantly surprised by how warm and friendly the service was. The menu as well looked like it might be over-engineered but it was fantastic. We shared a vegetarian appetizer that exploded with flavor. The risotto and an oxtail pasta were both very well executed. The by-the-glass wine list was also very rewarding - both the white and red choices were great. Finally, of course, the view over Citta Alta was amazing. We came for lunch but it is probably even more beautiful in the evening. It is not a cheap meal, but we thought overall it was well worth it. We...
