After learning about Restaurant Le Gout and its Executive Chef Idrissa Kabore, who creates the menus, we were intrigued and made our dinner reservation for 9/3 2025, before we traveled to Bergamo. The restaurant is located in a quiet district of Bergamo and seems like a world away from the active life of this beautiful city. At Le Gout, the opportunity exists to relax and enjoy a culinary journey, to experience how Chef Idrissa takes classic Italian dishes and highlights the regional and international cultural culinary influences of Europe. Particularly with the use of spices and herbs, we also detected subtle influences of the Arab World, the Far East, India and Africa that have played roles in the evolution of the recipes we use and enjoy today. His technique includes unexpected and surprising pairings of ingredients to create aromas and balanced complex flavors that entice and satisfy the palate. This was our experience.
As we entered the beautiful dining room, we were captivated by its frescoed walls. We were immediately greeted warmly by Alice, and, because it was such a beautiful evening, we chose to be seated on the lovely terrace. Alice was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful. Our choices included lightly-breaded and fried anchovies alla Milanese, delightfully presented atop a bed of crisp greens in an anchovy tin. We enjoyed baby octopus stewed with cherry tomatoes and the soft polenta, which we were told is the traditional polenta preparation style in Bergamo. We also chose braised beef accompanied by a different polenta preparation, cut in slivers lightly dusted in finely-ground maize flour and fried to resemble French fries. The polenta done in this way was a delicious and interesting accompaniment to the beef. The beef was braised until tender soft and was accompanied by a blanket of its rich delicious braising liquid with hints of moscato rosso, lardons, aromatic vegetables, herbs and spices. The adoption of French methods in many international culinary traditions, including Italy, was reflected in this beef recipe. We also chose a seafood medley of crispy calamari, calamaretti and shrimp, with an accompaniment of vegetables done in spicy light tempura, a delicious and unique dish drawn from Asian traditions. We also shared a green salad of arugula, done in an original Ligurian culinary tradition, with green beans and small white potatoes, dressed very lightly with basil pesto with pine nuts. To top off this wonderful culinary experience, we shared the most delicious baba rhum.
Throughout our dinner, service was attentive and unobtrusive, with perfect timing between courses. Staff are talented in their roles and comprise a cohesive whole. Alice's extensive knowledge about the dishes is impressive. Brunella is a perfect fit for the "Front of the House” role. We were delighted to share with Gabriella, collaborator with Chef Idrissa, how much we enjoyed this experience, which will remain not only a great memory but also an inspiration....
Read moreCaution: food was poor to average at best, very small portions and flavourless, AND the service was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! Don't waste your money, there are so many better restaurants in Bergamo. The staff were so RUDE and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in, I certainly won't be recommending this restaurant. *Nice try claiming this is a paid review, this is not a fake review as you are implying, I dined here 15/07/24 and left my feedback immediately - if you want I can upload a picture of the receipt and tell you exactly what you and your son were wearing. Your behaviour is embarrassing, shame on you for your lies! Your response to this review is pathetic, and only goes to support my comments that your service was very bad and you clearly have an attitude problem. I am sure you are you paying someone to give you good reviews as they are clearly fake. Your tactic of accusing every negative review as being paid is crazy, you know they are not fake....you are a liar and you sound crazy!! Good luck learning some manners, amore. In the meantime I suggest you keep paying for your...
Read moreAwful place. Lady that served us (we think she's the owner) was so rude to us from the beginning, constantly looking as if we're bothering her with our presence. And when we wanted to returned the "pizza" (quotation intended) she said its already eaten (yes, we've eaten a piece to taste it, obvi), there it no way we can return it and that it's our fault that we ordered it- she really tried to defend this dry bread roll with tomato sauce. After we settle that we'll pay half price for a half eaten "pizza" she came with the bill, with a look that told us she doesn't want us there anymore, asked who's paying while I was still in the middle of my pasta. Generally a really rude person who was obviously mad at as for criticising the restaurant. The pasta was great tho. Edit: I'm clearly a foreign so it really isn't that weird that I didn't had a certain amount of your currency at hand. Nevertheless that a really low counterargument and its just show how bitter and sad you are. You belong in the episode of...
