When we arrived at In Via Vela Dieci, our expectations were sky-high. We were greeted at the entrance and shown to our table upstairs. The first impression was excellent — the atmosphere felt like a calm oasis in the heart of Catania.
Having visited many fine restaurants around the world, I’ve learned that even disappointing food can be redeemed by outstanding service. In the end, it’s the people you remember, not just the meal.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. Throughout the evening, three different waitresses served our table, which felt disorganized and confusing. We had to ask several times just to place our order. When I mentioned that I’d like to have a main course as a starter, the waitresses laughed — not exactly the response you expect at a high-end restaurant.
Our wine never arrived until we reminded them, and when the main courses were served, our appetizer plates were still on the table. Small details, but in a restaurant of this caliber, they matter.
The service also felt rushed. Within ten minutes, the staff bumped into me four times while I was seated. You can serve guests efficiently without running — the constant rushing made me feel as if other tables were more important than ours.
We decided to skip dessert and left without...
Read moreThe restaurant is beautiful but the food for the new year’s eve was disappointing: the flavors were plain, some food came cold (noodles) with undercooked fish which clearly didn’t look like sashimi and was expected to be cooked as a part of a warm dish; the desert was a disaster - I guess they sell it as a signature desert but it’s such a food waste as they brought the messy mixture of all kinds of sugary things for 2 people which we clearly didn’t finish. All of that for 130 euros (drinks not included) - I think there were lots of places where this money could have been spent better. The service - no comments, it doesn’t exist. Expect arrogant faces and passive aggressive attitude (not what you expect for your new year celebration), however some of the waiters were very sweet but looked like they were under pressure. I’m giving 3 stars just for the beauty of the location, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend going there based on...
Read moreI've always had wonderful meals until I came here. The first impression when I came in was that stuff looked so serious and not friendly. Food was disappointing to be honest. I usually don't expect nice experience when it comes to asianish food in Europe, so I keep my expectation low, but it was still disappointing. Atmosphere was also not good. Music stopped lot and suddenly started playing so loud, adjusting all the time. When it got darker, a lot of mosquitoes came to our table. On my plate, in my wine glass, on my face. It might be unavoidable since we were eating outside, but I never had that experience even though I've been eating at terrace table for those three days. I got a lot of mosquito bites... couldn't really enjoy conversation or food. The service and food were the worst compared to what I ate for those three days. But the price was the most...
