We came here twice for lunch. The first time we didn't really know that this was a meat place and really just wanted a pizza (they don't do pizza for lunch. Only in the evening gs). We ended up having spaghetti carbonara which many of the reviews here really hate but I quite liked mine. We saw however what all the other people (mainly locals) were having which was mainly meat. So we came back for our Christmas lunch. There is a buffet with a variety of salads and antipasti etc. You can load up your plate - every plate is 5€. We also had a selection of their meat and the horse-"meatballs" were very nice (they are full on burgers as per the picture so don't get fooled thinking it's a small meatball.). Staff were friendly enough but only very little English or they couldnt ve bothered. There is an English menu though.

DO NOT GO THERE! We ordered: 1. Spaghetti alla carbonara: terrible, as many opinions before mentioned, scrambled eggs, with no taste, salt nor peper, no pecorino or any cheese. I got separate grano cheese in a glass lol. 2. Pork roll with becon and cheddar: pork was just sad and soaking in fat, becon was replaced with slices of eggplant and cheddar was not existant. 3. Aperol Spritz: wrong proportions, very little aperol, mostly water. 4. Fries: any fast food has better fries than them. I feel negative about this and sorry that nothing we ordered was matching to price. Prices are low, but the quality is even lower. Service is ok, but non Italian speakers may have trouble communicating with the staff, because out of 4 waitresses only 1 understood English. Lastly I would like to share a story from this so called "restaurant". True story, observed by me. I was sitting, contemplaiting sad choices I made ordering food at Il Borgo di Fedrico. Suddenly, a pigeon flew down from the sky and sat at the edge of our table. It looked at our plates filled with wannabe carbonara, pretending to be pork roll and salty fries. I did not move. I thought, go on buddy, enjoy your free meal. The pigeon looked at me and after a second or two took off. It landed on the sidewalk 2 meteres away and started picking food from the trash. FIN

WORST CARBONARA EVER !!! Not a bad place to have your italian lunch in Catania, but I was very much dissapointed by having scrambled egg pasta, which was supposed to be carbonara. Atmosphere is ok. I visited this place on sunday lunch, and the entire restaurant was filled by families after their sunday service. But the food wasn't. Euhm.. yes. I can't say every dishes were bad. The salchicha and pistachio meatball was ok. Pistachio cream inside the meatball was a new experience, which my wife told me that she wouldn't try that kind of new dish, but was good enough to finish it first. The seafood fry platter was ok. But there were too many squids in it. I thought it was fried squid, which is in the menu, but yes it also had one shrimp. One shrimp! Finally, scrambled egg pasta, a.k.a. carbonara. I guess I won't need any more comments about this matter. I attached two pictures of carbonara, no I have to use the right name. Let's to it again. You can see two pictures of scrambled egg pasta, and as you can imagine, it wasn't the carbonara I ordered. And guess what. They were serving only 3 pastas for lunch, and this was the disastrous result I had to face. Maybe during lunch time they don't hire Italian Chef. Maybe not.

First off, the food. I ordered a horse steak, medium-well, it came raw. I sent it back to the kitchen to be cooked to medium well and it came back rare again. Attached is an image after it was brought the second time from the kitchen. It also had a strong sour smell. Inedible. Secondly, the staff is very uninsterested. We were a group of 4, out of which 3 of us ordered and one asked for 2 more minutes to think. The waiter didn't come back and after 15 minutes we ran after a different waiter to be able to order. Amongst other things, we asked for 4 portions of fries and got two. The waiter put the two plates of fries in a hurry and never came back with the rest. We split the 2 portions and then asked 3 times for another plate of fries which was barely brought to us, when all the other food was already cold. We've had different experiences in Sicilian restaurants but this was by far the worst we've had in recent memory, regardless of the visited country. How this restaurant has 4 stars is a mystery.

I would say my first experience with this restaurant was by far the best. We came to have dinner right when they opened and got quite alright service. We had to wait a while for our food but nothing ridiculous yet. The food tasted really good and the portions were huge, together with the pricing that was a great evening. One day later we got a totally different experience. The restaurant was almost entirely full and there seemed to be not one person at work that dared to take our order. We had to wait about 30 minutes before we could order our drinks. After 40 minutes of waiting we got risotto and gnocchi, but the pizza took quite a bit longer. The risotto wasn't made very good which disappointed us. The lack of attention and poorer quality of food made me change my rate to 3 stars. Overall its a good place if you get the right food, but be prepared to deal with unqualified staff.

The food was pretty ok for lunch but I wouldn’t come here ever again because of the worst and most disrespectful customer service ever. The food came in 30mins, before that we had only one glass for our water and wine, the glass was also broken so my boyfriends lip got cut a bit. When I went to ask for more glasses, the waiter was mad to me for asking and brought two more glasses which one of them was also broken. The food was basically thrown at the table and when we asked for the check we just got a judging stare and 30min wait for the check. Also the patio was so hot that it made us feel sick. The restaurant has potential but the customer service was so poor that I wouldn’t want to experience that again. If you want to have decent food-experience but be ignored and glared at this is the right place for you…
